My inherited AEG 3220

Hi,
I have an AEG 3220 dishwasher which I was given. I was told it had a fault. I am now trying to trace the fault which seems double difficult as I dont know how the machine should behave normally.
It seems like the pre wash programme works. However when it gets to the heating cycle, well I think that’s what it is as the exterior gets hot (picture of what looks like a radiator) it seems to get hot and stop? I wonder if there is a temperature sensor/thermoatat I can test?
I eventually advance the programme knob on to what I think is the rinse cycle, no water seems to be sprayed around though, please also advise what to check here?
Any help greatfully received.
Is it worth me investing in the Haynes dishwasher manual, or should I try to find the official AEG service manual?
