My Smeg dishwasher burst into flames on Friday morning, causing an callout to the fire brigade. The fireman told me that he has never been called out for a fire caused by a dishwasher. Before I replace my beloved Smeg, I need to know whether there is a problem with this brand or model. I don’t want to get the same machine if I know there is a manufacturing problem with them.
Does anybody had the same experience or know of a problem with this model?
    Thanks

Re: My Smeg DWF44SS caused fire!!

I personally am not aware of any problems at present with any particular makes of dishwasher in regard to “Fire Risk”. Every household appliance that is fueled by gas or electricity is potentially a “Fire Risk” unless it is installed, serviced and maintained correctly. I can’t quote any figures but in any one year you will find an amazing amount of household fires attributed to “electrical faults”, these can be anything from wiring to toasters to televisions etc. etc. I think you were probably just unlucky, sorry. 🙁

I wouldn’t call it beloved if it burst into flames!

Has Smeg given you compensation, or are looking into it, say a product recall?
