KeymasterNo, total nightmare! Getting doorstep deliveries comes in two forms…
Difficult
Expensive
But all too often, both. 🙁

Participantmacmini, not so sure about that. Let me get back to you- my father had an item delivered from Argos recently, and both the uplift from the central warehouse and the local delivery (we’re in N.I.) were carried out by subcons. He actually got a card through the door from the mainland-based firm that do most of the work for Argos (I believe); hopefully he’s still got it…
… one phone call later.

dpm,
I work for one of the big electrical chains, begins with a C, you know the one, we’ve got our own delivery platforms and warehouses, nothing is sub contracted, it’s all done in house. I assumed that most places were the same.

Nightfreight have a 2 man delivery service which might help – http://www.deliver2home.co.uk/parcel_de … &level2=26 –
I am about to run a trial with them – after several months of closing down an ‘in house multi depot operation’.

Do they deliver washing machines ?
Most logistic companies will handle any appliance apart from washers, they’re actually on the “banned” list due to the door glass possibly breaking with a few 😕

Yes…… all whites and browns. They offer a wet install on whites. Their top line price is £35 – delivery only – 2 man – which includes contacting the customers prior to delivery – but there are extras (exchanges etc). I know from experience that £35 is a cheaper cost per drop than I used to able to run at…….
I plan to start the trial within the next couple of weeks – on internet only orders to start with. I have also met the director of the d2h service – and will happily email his contact details to anyone interested.
