Hi there, I’m a newbie here and I really need some sound advice/suggestion. I’m looking to buy a new cooker and I’m afraid I’ve scared myself off everything searching on the internet, between GoodHouseKeeping, WHICH, and numerous other sites 😕 What one persons says is Best Buy another says they rue the day they ever bought it; performance may be great but hinges come lose, parts fall off, symbols rubbed off so can’t tell if gas is turned off, etc :rolls: .

I’m looking for a decent dual fuel fs cooker 60cm to fit in existing slot, double oven (one fan oven) and glass top. I don’t want cheap but I’m not a millionaire, I know you get what you pay for but we really can’t afford to be paying over £500 for one. I know the difference between a sound solid cooker and a tin can, but if it doesn’t do the job I’m stuck with it regardless. So I’m looking for some good sound advice on makes and models to consider. 😐

I like to cook and bake but my current cooker wasn’t that great, a bit hit and miss/trial and error until adapted to the ovens quirks 😛

I’ve got Zanussi MC 9634 which must be over 20 years old and came with the house. After 12 years, the oven has finally packed in. I’m awaiting a quote from the repair man but he is dubious, thinks maybe I’d be throwing good money after bad. Any suggestion would be truly appreciated. 😀

    Hi

I like the latest range of Zanussi cookers but sadly they no longer produce a dual fuel model.

For your budget take a look at this AO link. Everything considered my first choice would be the Cannon second the Hotpoints and then the rest.

Cannon and Hotpoint are part of the same group but the Cannons do seem to have a better build especially on the door area.

If it were me I would visit my local Curry’s and a John Lewis to get a feel of the machines themselves.

    Hi Don,

Thanks for the reply it has been very useful

This is from review of Cannon C60DHWF Harrogate: Design of the main oven shelves is such that when baking a heavy cake, the shelf does not stay level, resulting in uneven cakes.

And yet this is from a review of Hotpoint CH60DHKFS Black Harrogate: CH60DHKFS is an efficient appliance with energy rating of B/B. Number of Burners: 4 Energy Rating: B/B Flame Failure Device NEW UPGRADED FEATURES In standby the appliance uses half a watt in power consumption The shelving has to be lifted to be removed as opposed to sliding straight out on the runners.

I very much liked the Cannon and was also my first choice of the 2 same as you suggested but see how this is so confusing. I’ve seen the shelving on the Cannon and understand the problem as there is no support for the back of the shelf in the main oven. I wondered if the Hotpoint have modified it in order to rectify this flaw. Don’t suppose you or anyone else on this sight would know, is Hotpoint’s an upgraded version of an older cannon model? There are so many slight variations of the same it’s hard to know which is the current

    Hi

I think I have this right 😐 it would appear that the CH60DTCFS and other colours have the thicker gauge shelves which enter through the liner and then sit on supports on the side wall of the cavity.

The HUD range have shelves which sit on the liners themselves.

The other models have the ladders fitted to the side walls.

I have to admit having had a quick play with all three sets of shelves I do not see what the problem is with the shelving.

The CH shelving is really good and strong, HUD slightly thinner but still substantial and the others do have very slightly thinner shelves.

As for no support at the rear of the shelving I have never known that on a fan oven.

A phone call to the Hotpoint pre sales advice line may reveal a little more 08000 921922.

    HTH 🙂

Re: Need advice choosing dual fuel fs cooker

    Hi, Don

You’re a gem for getting back to me and we seem to be on the same wave length 😀 – I contacted Cannon today. The very nice lady I spoke to was going to check on it in their show room and will get back to me on Thursday (she’s off tomorrow and short staffed). But she describe how they are supported as you did. She also said Cannon has rebranded as ‘Cannon By Hotpoint’ and there’s no difference in the standard/quality between Cannon cookers and Hotpoint. So, I’m assuming the Hotpoint CH60DHKFS is built to the same standard and spec as Cannon CH60DHKFS and it’s just the various online sites who call them by either name in their listings.

Don’t know where I can actually see it for real but I did take a look at the all gas version in Currys CH60GCIS to get an idea and its as I imagined it would be like. So I’ve settled on the CH60DHKFS just need to buy it and get someone to fit it, then it’s off to the tip with the old Zanussi :rolls: . I tell you, it’s easier to buy a car than it is to buy a cooker, washer or mattress – at least you get to test drive a car before you buy 😀

    Thanks for all your help
    Lorraine
