ParticipantI need to buy an under-counter fridge-freezer that will fit in a 34 inch high, 21 inch wide, 23.5 inch deep space. I am looking for something with no extra frills (not ‘frost free’, no auto-defrost, no smart technology etc. etc.), the more basic and low tech the better. I have no knowledge or experience in this area however, and do not know what brands I should be looking at in order to purchase a good quality fridge freezer with longevity?
I sleep in the same room, so I will need something that is not too noisy – particularly high pitched or sudden noises (a continuous low-pitched hum or the like is fine). I keep a lot of frozen meat, so need a decent sized freezer section. And, if possible, I would prefer something that comes in an alternative to white, as white would look very out of place next to dark wood cabinets etc.
Any suggestions and advice would be appreciated.

ParticipantYour specs are quite specific so I think the best way to get advice would be for you to do the legwork yourself. Look through online retailers websites and then manufacturers websites. Once you have a shortlist of appliances post them here and I’m sure you’ll get some help.

ModeratorThere is nothing made at 34 inches high, are you sure that’s correct?

Well, my current fridge is 32.5 inches high, so there must be others that would fit in a 34 inch space as well; it would not have made much sense for the builders to only leave that much space for a fridge if few to none would actually fit in it (though I would not put it past them).

Any recommendations for retailers or manufacturers I should have a look at? I have been looking online for a couple days now, the only ones I have found so far are the Russell Hobbs RH47UCFF1B and RHUCFF50SS, and the Comfee RCT87BL1(E).

ModeratorApologies on the height put it down to a senior moment 😉 The only one like that I know of is the https://www.montpellier-appliances.com/product-details/montpellier-mab2035c/ which has a two year warranty.

No problem 🙂
From what I have read, Montpellier (and Russell Hobbs – the option I found) have quite bad reviews regarding their quality though. I may need to ease up a little on my specifications if I hope to find something suitable that will last…July 27, 2021 at 9:05 pm #478189OutmodedEccentric
ParticipantI am currently looking at the Liebherr TPest 1714, which is a bit wider than my specifications (but I would be able to knock-out and adjust the placement of the sideboard in that space to give a little extra room for it). My main concern is the auto-defrost; the only fridge’s that have that feature, which I have slept in the same room as, wake me up every night due to the noise.
