First a little background from me. I have a Miele Hydromatic W698 which is 13 yrs old and has been superb, although one repair was needed recently and the brushes in the motor were replaced. However it has gone wrong again and the electronics seem all over the place, with programmes not being executed properly. The Miele has had some major use over those 13 yrs, probably been used every single day. It’s supposed to have been used on a concrete floor apparently, but I only have a wooden floor so maybe this has shortened the life of it?

Anyway I now plan to buy a Bosch from the new range. The models I have spent the last few weeks pondering over are:

    WFR 3268

    WFR 2868

    WFO 2866

I could possibly save some money if the brushless motors on the WFR 3268 are not that important, but I always look for brushless motors with computer stuff because they are far more reliable and last much longer. So does this apply to washing machines in the same way?

Are the Bosch machines known for having any fault that affect them all, generally speaking? Are the electronics reliable and how do they perform on wooden floors? More importantly how costly are repairs for Bosch machines? Is it possible to do your own PC Update to the machine, instead of needing a Bosch service repair man?

So many questions and hopefully as many answers in return! 😀 Any help would be very much appreciated, especially since I will need to buy it over the weekend.

    Ego_Shredder,

My personal choice of the 3 Bosch machines you quote would be the WFO2866. A good, reliable and well founded piece of kit. The other 2 are fine, although 1600 rpm is far too unneccesarily fast for its own good 😉 Plus they take ages to complete a towels type wash!!!

The brush motors are fine, last ages and the sophisticated electronics will ensure even on a wooden floor, it is stable 🙂 Service and repairs are much cheaper than Miele because many ‘Independants’ are out there able to fix them at a far cheaper rate (and quicker) than the manufacturers 😉

However, don’t right off your Miele too easily, it can be overhauled for less than the price of a new Bosch you know 😉

    Now it’s your choice!

    Hi Ego_Shredder

If the Miele you have is thirteen years old and used daily which is about
twice average use its about twenty six years old not bad eh, money well spent. Miele machines still have that same lifespan today. Price difference between the models quoted and a Miele is not that far away and yes the engineer can update the Miele by laptop as well.
    good hunting.

After MUCH thought we eventually bought the WFR 3268 model, although after 3yrs my mother wishes she had gone with the WFR 2868 I think. Next time she will buy another Mielé.

It has become noisy and rattles like crazy (cheap plastic), doesn’t rinse properly and there isn’t an option to simply do another quick rinse without launching a full wash cycle. The Mielé spun and rinsed far, far better at 1100rpm than the Bosch at similar speeds.

My mother can’t seem to accurately judge how much powder to put in this machine, i.e. on her old Mielé she could see the powder foaming enough to know there was enough whereas if the Bosch foams it’s too late as there is too much and it struggles, along with warning messages on the display and the machine stopping and needing attention. There are other annoying aspects to this machine and overall my mother says the bottom of the range Mielé is better than Bosch’s top model. The Bosch goes off balance everytime whereas the Mielé was pretty solid on any surface.

Thanks for the help though as it did influence my mother’s decision.
