I bought a freestanding Bosch Serie 6 washer-dryer in 2015. It now needs to be replaced with an integrated unit because that is what the other half wanted (and their designed kitchen has just been installed).

We run our washing cycle every night. Experience shows the 8kg wash (5kg drying) can be constraining, and we sometimes need to run the cycle again during the day. This means I want a minimum 8kg load as anything smaller would be a step in the wrong direction.

We run it at night on Economy 7. This means we use the timer. It would be nice if the machine used an actual time, instead of needing us to work out how many hours are needed until it should stop. Using the Hot Fill would be even better.

We have wood floors and an anti-leak design would be desirable.

I became confused when looking for an integrated 8kg(5kg) washer-dryer that meets these requirements. Confusion led me to this site. I read the material that basically says all machines are cheaply rebadged, without actually giving any advice on how to find machine that is not (p.s. Ebac appear to make no integrated units). What is the advice please?

First of all if you run a cyle every night that is double the average us of three loads per week there is no domestic machine that would cope with that use. Most manufacturers would deem it to be commercial use which guarantees do not cover. The odd engineer may turn a blind eye to the use but most won’t.

Secondly the build quality in the main of appliances has decreased since you purchased back in approx 2015. Retail prices have gone up but not as much as they should have so the build quality has decreased and corners cut to keep the price down like sealed tub units, smaller pumps and brushless motors are where some of the savings are made.

In truth there isn’t an integrated washer dryer in the mould you are looking for. The best freestanding washing machine I can come up with would be the V-Zug AW6TWHCR they have a showroom in Harrogate sales@v-zug-harrogate.co.uk 01423 227227 should you wish to contact.

Out of washer dryers which are integrated the only one currently would be the Miele as it is the best in the UK. However the usage may be an issue with them. The build and service is good but they do restrict service info and the cost of spares are higher than most other manufacturers.

If you can I would consider two seperate machines freestanding in Miele or V-Zug if budget allows. Otherwise it’s a sad case of “take your pick and hope.”

There is a raft of information here on all things washing machines which will give you a much greater idea.

Thank you! These are very helpful insights – particularly as I did not know domestic machines are not intended for daily use! I’ll have another go at convincing the other half to continue with the Serie 6 until it breaks, particularly as you indicate a new machine might fail quickly.

I have observed this quality issue several times in other industries. During periods of economic growth companies will try to build their reputations (e.g. innovate and make promises), and during an economic downturn companies harvest their reputation (e.g. rebadge cheaper lower quality and hide information).

“Thank you! These are very helpful insights – particularly as I did not know domestic machines are not intended for daily use!”
That is, as you know, is not what he meant! What it boils down to is you can do anything you want…..just expect problems if the machine is deemed overly used despite what kriptonite is bounded about to the sales / manufacturers contrary. But your last paragraph is spot on.
If you have wooden floors, but especially suspended wooden floors avoid any machine with a direct drive motor, e.g. Lg and some Samsungs (and others) unless you want the thing to wiggle forward caused by an inbalanced rotor = something that spins- (same effect as a derestricted from 28mph to a more respectful 40 mph Tomos moped with the out of balance centrifugal clutch = ok at the designed 30 but not good at 40+! (unless you machine the outside of the auto clutch basket on a lathe to balance the thing).
Yep, Ebac do not make intergrated machines having very good sense.
I suppose you could go for the Neff intergrated w/dryer BUT in my experience the drum bearings are a weak point which costs a packet when they fail = had several screw-up at 4 to 4.5 years old.
Washer dryers that are well known to be varying degrees of citrus specials are in my opinion: Hoover, Candy, Hotpoint, Indesit, AEG to a lesser degree. Zanussi, Bosch, Neff and Siemens. Everything else MIGHT be better BUT beware of spare parts/after market service = no spares, prematually gone obsolete spares*****, or a long wait or/ and expensive rip off parts costs (well, more robbery than is normal !) Chinese imports (e.g. a common problem with the FREE standing Siemens w/dryer which is wholly Chinese made is the 3 way inlet valve….about 85 quid in UK or if willing to wait 3 weeks £12 -£18 from mainland China!!! = rip off UK.)
Shame you went for intergrated though you probably would not be much better off with free standing either as a washer dryer.
The answer to you question is that there is no real answer to your question.
****** take the right to repair act of parts availability for 10 years with a pinch of salt least without a fight and /or being ripped off.
You might want to repair your old machine instead if it is possible ref cost and wait for better times ahead or though I personally would not bank on that.
VZug are a Swiss company with costs to match of which little is known or rather if it screws up with all the parts companies I have dealings with not a single part is listed = you are at their mercy on prices = not a good position to be in.

Thank you for the deep dive. I did not say the Bosch Serie 6 (made in 2015) needs a repair. As it happens, I decided to install the freestanding Bosch into the space allocated for an integrated unit because as you said there is no answer to the opening question. I will need to reopen the can of worms when the Bosch eventually breaks, and I am leaving this thread intrigued by Ebac..

Yes very true you didn`t. And yes I do deep dives.
Ask for a EBAC sales pamphlet is a good idea.
