ParticipantI need to buy a new built-in single oven after my Hygena decided to go on strike.
Unfortunately, there are some constraints (no, not just money):
1. Cabinet depth is limited to 56 cm. Current Hygena is 55cm deep, front panel to back.
2. Power supply must be 13A (hardwired) and no more than that. I guess anything below 3KW will do.
3. Colour must be white.
4. My better half said that it must have mode with both bottom and top heaters operating in conjuction with fan. Don’t ask me why…So far I only found 1 (one!) oven that answers all the requirements – this is Hoover HFO415W but I am not quite sure if it is any good. I had a couple of Hoover (and Candy for that matter) appliances in the past and wasn’t impressed at all, particularly by er… hoover.
Other contenders are:
CDA SC610W and SC210W (can’t find it anywhere apart from CDA website!). But CDA CD602WH and CD201WH probably will do. The trouble is that I can’t find any information about it, apart from one provided by shops.
Baumatic B151W and 180W. These are one of the ugliest ovens ever, but specs are okay. Sorry, I am wrong, the “ugliest” award goes to New World, so these are simply ugly.
Bosch HBN131220B. This one looks good, I am a bit more confident about Bosch compared to the rest, but the main feature (see 4) isn’t there. In fact, there are not many cooking modes at all.
Neff B1322W1GB. Simlar set to Bosch, but looks a bit better (to my eyes, that’s it) and got even less features that Bosch.
My questions are:
1. What would you choose from the list above and why?
2. Is there anything else that answers to all 4 requirements and is still below 400 quid?TIA 🙂
Now I am off to read microwave user guide, section “how to use grill”…

Hi
The CDA would be a good choice, they come with a 1yr warranty and 4yr parts warranty. The down side is that since they have dropped the majority of the local service engineers to go with their employed engineers the service has dropped a bit and their knowledge base has dwindled.

I would forsake the extra cooking modes and go for a good solid fan oven like the Bosch or the Neff. Both are good looking machines which are well constructed and come with two year guarantees. They also come in under budget 😉HTH

I like CDA’s design too, but the trouble is that I can’t find any stockist in my area. My better half refuses to order anything without seeing it in flesh first 🙁
donThis is exactly my thoughts… just need to think on how to explain this to my wife.
Is Hoover definitely no-go?March 5, 2008 at 1:02 pm #244955don

Take her along to your nearest stockist, let her see the quality of product and the rest as they say will be history 😉

Thanks.
Apparently she decided that cream colour will do as well (she saw Rangemaster oven on web :)). I never heard about Rangemaster before, TBH. Are they any good? The Rangemaster 76130 seems to be perfect as it is short, 13A and got that dual-heater-fan-assisted-whatever.
The Rangemaster 76130 can be had for 325 quid delivered, which is well within my budget.

Hi
Not bad pieces of kit, you could do worse 😉 Personally I would still go for durability over functions anyday.
Having said that if it makes for a happy household then you have to go with it.

OK, thank you 🙂 I guess that be it, just need to find some stockist in my area.
My credit card gives me 3 years of additional warranty (starts after manufacturer’s warranty expiration date) for any electrical product I buy with the card, so in case of Bosch/Neff or Rangemaster I’ll have 5 years of peace of mind.
Until my better half decides to redecorate something, that’s it 🙁

BTW, both Bosch and Neff I mentioned above are made in Spain. Does that mean these are actually Balay?

Bosch and Neff have factories all across Europe, as the labour rate is cheaper it helps to keep the overall price of the appliance down. While they are made away from Germany the standards used are exactly the same.

Where did you gain this information?

ParticipantRe: Need new oven – opinions please?
I saw both machines (Bosch and Neff) in my local Currys. The sticker on each appliance said “Made in Spain”.
This article says:
Recently BSH have moved the bottom end Bosch brand slightly downmarket into the high volume, low cost sector using machines made in Spain in the Balay factory.
So I guess it is quite logical to conclude that:
1. Both Bosch and Neff I mentioned are low-end machines (just look at their manufacturer’s website).
2. On both machines sticker says “Made in Spain”.
3. This website says that low-end Bosch and Neff made in Spain by Balay.
4. Conclusion – these machines are Balay-made.Is there anything wrong with such logic? 🙂
BTW, I am in serious trouble now… Mrs saw Hoover HFO415 in our local Homebase and she absolutely sold on it. 🙁 She likes it even more than Rangemaster (Bosch and Neff she doesn’t like at all). Ah well…

Well, they’ve got to try and get rid of them somehow.
BSH Group have various factories across Europe. All are modern, state of the art and capable of manufacturing to any standard required. Price point in relation to other group products is usaully a reasonable indicator as to what you’re getting.
