ParticipantHi I need to buy a new washer-dryer (would buy washer and dryer as separates but I’ve not got the space) and haven’t got a clue as to which is the best one to go for within my budget.
I’ve £900 to spend but some of this needs to go towards a new fridge-freezer (thread located below)

Which? recommend the AEG-Electrolux L16830 and the John Lewis JLWD1408 but I don’t know if you guys would know otherwise or know of a better one.
Thanks for your help. 🙂

My mum likes her Bosch one. It was the top of the range when she got it 5 years ago, and does very well. She too lacks the space for separate items, and is also an inveterate hanger out of clothes so they freeze stiff in the winter! 😀 She doesn’t use the dryer part all that often, but says it works well. The washer part is very good, she thinks. Having used it myself when staying with her, I think she’s right, but I also think I prefer my new ISE! 😉

Bosch is a reasonable choice, the JL and AEG machines are both Zanussis in a dress, so choose from comparable models to save a few bob.

asked so many times this question
are u buying to impress or functional ?
2 options 1 option got to shop any name and buy either cheapest machines u can find and u have enough money for least 1 more machine for the furture+ get the 5 year warrenty if they do it cheaply allways say no on the first offer on warrenty if it sounds like alot
option 2 buy name but u just paying for the name maybe abit lower {e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} that it will go wrong less , but alot of the times its all pot luck and customer useage
as a caution i found many people that go from free standing tumble dryer to wd are not impressed with the quality of wd on drying if u allready have a wd and like it try to keep to same.
only real diffrence on any wm/d is size of drum and spin speed rest makes no diffrence or direct drive if u really going upmarket
ff realy only diffrence is size
i,ve seen unknow cheap models last for ages and highr end models to be crap and the reverse as wellApril 25, 2008 at 9:15 am #250291don

Hi and thanks for your quick replies. I’ve a few quick questions.

What Bosch model would you recommend in particular?
Also what Zanussis models are the comparable ones? Just the ones with the same specs?

Which model is this?

Can I haggle on the warranty? If so are most places accommodating to haggling?
Thanks again for your helpApril 26, 2008 at 12:49 am #250293karv

long time ago some expert on the tv reckon if u never got warrenty and stuff all ya money in a jar u have enough to buy a new items when needed.
but u have to take the luck factor and useage a 12month standard +4 warrenty can save u aload of hazzle.
companys do make alot of money on there warrentys and some will come back with a second offer ie i spoken to my manger and he said i can do blar blar and some won,t come back with another offer.
end of the day is what u think sounds right.
if i bought a machine that was alot of money say 400 pounds
and they offered me warrenty for say 180 i would say no if the offer was near 100 or less i would say probaly say yesbut it all boils down to what u think is good value.April 26, 2008 at 12:53 am #250294Kate XXXXXX

I don’t know which model: it’s 5 years old, and they are are all different now anyway…
I do know that it’s one of the German built ones and was about £700 when she bought it.

ParticipantThanks for your help everyone. I’ve decided to go for the John Lewis JLWD1408 model.
However is there a integrated (can have a kitchen cupboard covering it) version of this model or one similar that has good reviews?
Thanks for your help

Hi
There is this integrated version of the WD1408. It does has a reduced capacity of 5kg though to allow the machine to recess further so the timber door will then end up flush with the existing run.
