ParticipantI need to change the element on my Indesit DI450 dishwasher.
I have found the element online but require a little help on how to remove the old one.
I was hoping the “prong” in the middle was a screw but it is just a prong.
Surely it’s not a push fit is it?
Do I have to remove the dishwasher (it’s integrated) to get to it?
Any help appreciated.

Yes, access from underneath, be sure to remove the mains plug.
I am just wondering how you know the heater is faulty if you haven’t already pulled the machine out and tested the original element with a megger or mutlimeter. 😕
Or does it have visible damage?
These machines do have very poor quality electronics, whilst the tube type elements do fail quite often, the element that is visible in the tub such as yours is far more reliable.
The PCB is more likely to have caused a no heat fault TBH.

The element is split and according to my wife, was in flames.
She said it was bleeping so she opened it and cleared some debris from the filter, then after restarting it still bleeped.
On opening the door, she saw flames.

Giving the matter careful consideration I would agree that your good ladies observations would constitute ‘visible damage’ 🙂
I would suggest keeping a close eye on the machine after you have replaced the element, just in case the element is being switched on with little or no water in the machine.

Whilst I have the thing out, is there anything else I should think about replacing or cleaning before putting it back in?

Not really, as long as it is dry with no signs of water leaks there is nothing for you to clean underneath.

Hence the “where do I know that name from” line.
