ParticipantHi,
Ordered this Bosch and hey presto – it’s too tall! Does anybody have any sensible suggestions for reducing the height.
It looks as though the feet are as low as they will go. I need to lower it by another 1.0 – 1.5 cms (not sure how much of a gap you should leave between work surface and top of washer).
It looks as though you can unscrew the top and remove the cover but not sure if this is dangerous.
Do I have to chisel away at my kitchen? Any help appreciated.

Hi
It has been known to replace lid with a piece of sheet steel and obviously secure it securely.
ATEOTD (ssh iadom 😀 ) it is a free standing appliance and not a built in/under appliance.Greg

Removing the feet is not an option as that will leave the machine very unstable and will vibrate badly damaging whatever floor covering is underneath! 🙁
With ordinary washing machines the lid can be safely removed and a plywood top attached in its place is an effective solution. However, yours being a washer/dryer means that there has to be sufficient clearance above the dryer heater ducting and using the ‘plywood covering technique’ again not a recommended option. 🙁
Also, please bear in mind that installing the machine in a location contrary to the manufacturers installation instructions will inevitable render your guarantee nul and void? 😥
The better solution is to re-site the machine somewhere else or get that chisel out and raise the height of your worktop to accomodate it. 🙂

There should be a correct height reduction kit for that machine. It’s really just a metal plate, pressed and shaped and comes with foam edge strips to seal around tha fascia end, and usually some fixing screws. The old lid needs to be removed first of course. They aren’t cheap, but it’s the correct way to reduce the height of the washerdryer.
You should be able to get the part direct from Bosch here..http://www.bshappliancecare.com/Bosch/boschspares.html

Thanks for the responses everyone. I have just read this in the Built-under or built-in appliance installation section of manual:
The appliance must be built under or built in prior to connecting the power supply.
The appliance can be built into or under a kitchen work surface. For this purpose, a recess width of 60 cm is required.
The washer-dryer must only be installed under a one-piece worktop that is permanently attached to the surrounding cabinets.
For safety reasons in built-under installation, a cover plate must be assembled by a specialist in place of the applicance cover plate.
Cover plate (set) can be obtained from a specialist store or the Customer Service, order no. WMZ 2390.
Is this what you are referring to Kentish?

Yes thats it. We at my end call them height reduction kits/plates. Others call them whatever they may.
All they do is allow the appliance to be installed in a position where the maximum height is less than the normal appliance height of 850/855mm and reduce the appliance down to 822mm.
