    Hi

My first post – and it’s a question about my 1987 model Zanussi WD1012. Still going strong but the graphics on the selector knob have worn off, making it difficult to impossible to select the right programme.

I have sourced a new knob but can’t find a way of removing the old one. I’ve had the lid of the machine off, removed the mounting screw of the control mech to the right of the machine, to which the knob is connected.

But it’s not at all clear how to remove the knob. It pulls off part-way but then is retained by something, not clear what, and I don’t want to apply brute force for fear of breaking it entirely.

Is there any experience with it I can draw upon, please?

    Thank you.

in trying to answer your problem i have included 2 files

1 here picture of the outer knob
2 sent private message with complete breakdown

see picture of knob attached 099625 on diag

there is a slot in the knob with a plastic clip. push clip towards the middle of the knob. at the same time depress the knob and turn anticlockwise. all being well knob will unlatch
where the knob off item 099627 on diag has a nut inside it

    Hope it helps

Thank you Dave, for your quick reply and your help.

I’ll confess I’m still having trouble with this as, using a slim screwdriver, I press the clip inwards, turn anti-clockwise and – well, nothing seems to happen. I will persevere!

I have changed one of these on a similar model from the same series and it did need some persistence to remove it. I narrowly avoided snapping the plastic clip though. Remember to press and hold the knob in before turning anti-clockwise while pushing the clip in at the same time, otherwise it’ll just free wheel. Also make sure the timer mounting screw is back in place. Brute force will remove the cover but will snap the clip requiring the replacement of both parts.

Once the cover is out you can remove the nut holding the clip assembly in place. Behind this is a spring. Then when the clip assembly is removed you’ll see that the outer barrel (the bit with the graphics and letters on) is held in place by two plastic clips. You should be able to squeeze these slightly using long nosed pliers and enough to free the barrel.

The barrel has a key fitting so it’ll only fit back on in the correct place, so you don’t need to worry about the programmes lining up correctly.

    Tom
