ParticipantHappy New Year to all!
Has anyone encountered the following issue on the above oven?
The customer describes it thus (I haven’t been to the appliance):
It displays but if you press the control it goes crazy and scrolls through the menu without stopping on anything, so it’s impossible to reset. Apparently controls have been temperamental for about a year but they always managed to get it to behave eventually. Then it showed an error code last month (they can’t remember which one) and they tried turning off at mains for varying amounts of time without result. Also the display has reset to German and to 2014.There are two modules, unsure whether that would be the operating module or the control module, or both, or neither? Operating module programmed is around £200, the control module is around £130, so not cheap.

KeymasterPyro single oven so all electronic.
Any number of things, depending on how well they’ve isolated the electonics, can send them mental. An earth fault, boards, sensor… the list goes on.
Even external factors such as, is the supply good, is it clean could affect what it does with your issue being that, if it comes back up and works okay it could be a nightmare to try to pinpoint what’s causing the issue.
The simple answer is, replace the boards but if it’s not that or those causing it, replacing them will do no good.

Moderatorthe more complex these get the more interacting problems you get
Neff can afford to change parts on a whim we cant
if a clean does not sort it you either tell the customer they pay for the parts even if it does not cure it or walk away and let neff deal with it
even though the control panel is more likely the fault it could also be corrupted power supply from the power Board and as K says a host of other things
walk away

ParticipantThanks K and Dave,
Much appreciated.
Having looked at Neff’s repair service, they also charge the parts on top of the £109 callout and labour charge, so not much different from what I would do. Not sure they would charge less for their parts either.
It’s actually not a pyrolytic clean oven, customer tells me.
I will let them know all you mentioned and let them decide what they want to do. When you say clean the panel, I assume you mean me cleaning it inside and out, not just an external clean by the customer?

ParticipantAh I see, yes it’s worth a shot. Thanks Dave.
I hasten to add my callout charge is not £109 by the way

ParticipantSpot on advice Dave, the cleaning worked. The customer actually removed the switch front, cleaned the back of it and all is working properly now.
