ParticipantI replaced pat element on double neff oven in early march, this type of element fitted to both Neff and Bosch have been blowing at a regular pace. ( butterfly shape)
I get no garuntee from my supplier on elements period ,you can argue all day long but you still have to weigh in with cash.
that aside this type of element has recently been de-rated which indicates a problem in the first place at design stage.
to the point…. I offered my client to re-new this element with de-rated one at the cost of the elemt its self and no labour cost.
he calls back shouting and ranting word for word classic trading standards speak..merchantable quaility. it should have a 12 month garuntee, i quote it only applies to new goods not repairs, although goodwill will aways play a factor.
who is right…. him or me or trading standards with their sales of good act speech. Or should I be quoting TS speech to my supplier and get element replaced.
thanks for any similar experierces and solution
many thanks
Graham

I think that most members here give at least 6 months guarantee on spares regardless of wether they are gen or pattern. I always give 12 months on all parts but I am very selective when using pattern spares.
In this instance I think you are on a hiding to nothing if the element has failed after just over 5 months, irrespective of any warranty you get from your supplier.
Quite simply the goods were not fit for purpose, sadly you really haven’t a leg to stand on. 😥 IMHO of course. 😉

I’m with Jim. I give twelve month gtee.
The customer has paid for the repair. Cut your losses, supply another element FOC for good will.
You have little to lose and much to gain.

agree you have to replace it and take it up with your supplier he may stand part of the cost especially if you spend a lot with them
good will from customers brings in new business i have customers all the time expecting a fight to get a problem sorted and when they dont get one it gives them a shock but they remember you and know you will be fair and honest
hope his helps Dave

The only thing you’ve gotta be really carefull of is stressing the motor shaft when removing the fan blade to get to the top screw – otherwise it will rattle like mad ! – I’d give a 12 Month warranty too (you should be able to claim this back from BSH – If you bought the element from them!?)

If you give a little squirt of say WD40 or equivalent down the shaft after removing nut and locking washer (if fitted) then grab shaft with pliers and turn the fan wheel by hand to loosen. Then pull evenly on fan and off it comes 😀

These cookers are a F***ing joke.
I only fit the original elements but have had nothing but trouble with this particular oven. The fault is down to the fact that the element is too small for such a high watt element.
Basic fan oven fact which applies to pattern or original elements is:
The longer the element the long it will last.
Two loop element last half the life of three loops.
This Bosch/Naff element is equivalent to a one loop element.
The first time I saw it I thought ‘How Sh1t, this is going to give me some jip.’
Sure enough loads of problems, what a crap design.November 6, 2007 at 3:19 pm #223896barneyb
ParticipantI found That if you dont refit the middle screw it gives the element a chance to move and expand ……. fingers are still crossed

Hi Barney , if you’re talking about the screw behind the fan blade , its best to fit it because the movement of the element could end up with the element rattling or in a worst case , striking and impeding the fan blade itself .

And while on the subject of Bosch elements what about the bl***y tumble dryer element from hell 496079. Six ordered from varying sources all duff. Low res to start with going to nothing under load. Lost two jobs through these buggers. 👿
