ParticipantIts about 9 years old.
Customer says that it was working fine until it made a loud cracking noise. If you switch the 13Amp socket ON the clock flashes zeros for about 4 seconds then the whole machine looks and acts completely dead except that in the screen where the numbers should be illuminated you can just make out ER4 very faintly.
I’ve checked the socket, the internal fuses and cut outs. There is no sign of burning on the PCB.
I had the sensor on stock 175710, and quickly tried it but it was the same fault.
Any help appreciated.January 24, 2011 at 10:34 pm #340568kevinlewis

after further inspection I found that part of the main pcb behind the control panel had melted one of the snail trails. I soldered a wire and retried it. It immediately blew the 12A fuse.
I’d already checked all the microwave and heating components for shorts and earth faults. This must be a fairly common fault because I’ve now got a second Neff combi with exactly the same fault within four weeks. ER4 showing very faintly in the display.

It is definately worth looking at the actuators on this, I had one do exactly the same.

Actuator for definite. Usually you can see which.
Unfortunately this can cause a complete self destruction of all the pcbs. er4 is a red herring.Loads of money unfortunately.

By Actuator, do you mean the ones that make and break the door switches? I tested them earlier and all three switches were opening or closing with the door.

No they are not the door switches. There are two of them, red little devices that control the flap that changes between m/wave and oven. If you unclip them from their little housing you will probably see a burn/blow mark on one of them.

also check the light bulb, they can cause serious damage on the early machines.
The newer versions have a big green resistor in the lighting curcuit to prevent the bulb taking out the PCB’s -
