Greetings, experts of UK White Goods and thank you in advance for your words of wisdom.

Mine is a Neff S5444X1GB/23 dishwasher, built-in with the 2007-era apartment we’ve just moved into.

I started it with a handful of rinsed dishes and cups in it. It ran and then stopped – the dishwasher tablet was damp but not dissolved. Now, whenever I start a programme, the drain pump just runs continuously, and the “Check Water Supply” light (no. 7) comes on after a while.

When I lift the float, on releasing the float the drain pump stops for a split second, then starts again. Indeed, the drain pump runs with the door open.

I’ve cleaned the mesh micro filter, pulled out a shard of glass from the bottom. True, I managed to break a glass with the dishwasher on the first use.

I removed the impeller cover, and couldn’t find any debris around the impeller, and I can see the impeller turning when I power on the dishwasher with the cover removed.

I don’t hear or feel any activity on the Bitron Type 902 aquastop valve when I start the machine.

This also exhausts my recently-gained knowledge about dishwashers.

What would be my next steps here?

I assume that the float you mentioned is the flood detection float, this is connected to another float in the base which if water lifts it causes the machine to act the way you’re describing

Fiddling with the dishwasher I had turned the water supply valve what I thought was off and on, and when someone came to check it was in the off position, and the dishwasher worked when turning it on.

I’m not sure now what happened the first time when it looked like it had partially run (but not released the tablet)
