Hi my dishwasher S5444X1GB/26 is leaking randomly every 6 or so cycles. Leak is from front door so I assumed lower door seal needed replaced, so I got a new one but still leaks after replaced. It seems to leak during the prewash cycle before even the dishwasher tablet is dispensed. When door opened it is obvious there is too much water in bottom, it overflows past the hinges. Now there is a little mushroom device in bottom of dishwasher which I think is an overflow device. If I manually pull up the device the pump starts draining the water. I think there are a couple of possibilities, either the mushroom device is sticking or has failed or the drain pipe is blocked ( but when I manually drain it empties quite quickly). Does an expert agree that the mushroom device has failed and should I look at replacing, and if so is that a DIY job or time to call the service team? Thanks in advance.

The fault is that the Impeller Jug (part no: 00424099) that registers the amount of water that comes in is faulty and needs replacing.

Hi Martin thank you, that sounds very likely the solution. But before I order up I just want to double check. The majority of cycles the dishwasher runs without leaking and there are no warning errors even when it leaks. So is it possible that impeller jug has intermittent fault, sometimes too much water is drawn in and other times it is normal. Thanks so much.

The impeller gets clapped out (don’t we all) and is less reliable. Even on those occasions where it doesn’t leak it almost certainly will fill with an inconsistent amount of water.
