NEFF dishwasher what to clean

NEFF SD13J1F. Would not stop. I found the outlet waste pipe completely blocked at the drain end (ie farthest from the dishwasher). I have removed and completely cleaned this out was well as the maze of waste piping under the sink. The drain pump runs okay and there is nothing in the sump inside the machine. It now pulses the drain pump and some of the lights but will not start a cycle or respond to button presses.

What else is likely to need cleaning?

I removed the water matrix to get the hose off and although the top left corner is stained nothing seems outright blocked; does this usually cause any problems?

There is another small plastic housing with a blue arm on the side at the bottom of the water matrix that has some scale on the outside. Should I be concerned by this?

Anything else ‘common’ to check?

PS If you wonder why I haven’t already tried some of these things it is my stepmother’s dishwasher which is 100miles away so can only be tackled when I visit, planning another visit soon to have another go so need all the help I can get! Also explains why I can’t currently post any photos.
