Neff dishwasher won’t drain

Hi, I have a built-in Neff dishwasher that is just over two years old – it has the Type number SL15J1F and is a full-width unit.

It will not drain – the pump is making a humming sound and I guess there could be a blockage.

I’ve had a priliminary look and, behind the left-hand panel, there is a large plastic container, for want of a better word. The pipe from the drain pump goes into the bottom of this, and the water is then pumped up through the container and back down to the main drain pipe (apologies if I’m stating the obvious here, but I’m not famillar with dishwasher technology).

I took off the first of these pipes and it seemed to pump slowly but happily into a bowl, so I assumed the blockage was clear. However, after reassembly, the unit will again not drain.

Any suggests as to what I should try next?

I’d start by bailing out as much water as possible, then removing the drain pump cover at 3 o’clock in the sump. See if there’s anything obstructing the impellor – you might try running the pump briefly with the cover off – a foreign body may well be expelled.

Check sink coupling for sludging. Failing these, you may have an obstruction in the fill/drain matrix. A piece of glass is notoriously difficult to spot.

Try the 9 o’clock position. If you find your instruction book it will tell you how to check the pump 😉

Yes, I found a peanut stuck in the hole at the 9 O’Clock position! 😳

Regarding an instruction book – I don’t have one, the dishwasher came with the house.
