ParticipantHi,
I have a 5 year old Neff integrated dishwasher. The model is:
S5443X1GB/29
I noticed during a wash it was making a strange noise, as though the motor was just running. When i opened the door it carried on. I have tried switching off at the mains and re-powering. I can select different programs but the motor at the bottom is just trying to suck out water all of the time.
There is no water in the dishwasher.
Is there anyway to reset it. I have tried the two button reset but with no luck.
Not sure what is causing it to be so confused.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Paul

Drain pump will be running due to water leakage into the base tray under the machine activating the flood protection system.
You will have to drain the tray to re-set machine. If you get a repetition, you will have to find the leak.
Power off if you intend to do this yourself.

thanks very much for your help.
Have drained the machine. Its integrated and had great fun getting it out.
Have got it running again now.
Is there any chance this is a one off or am i looking at getting a new machine.
I did accidently spill some salt in the machine while topping it up – i did read somewhere this can cause leaks ??
I have no luck with dish washers 😀
Thanks again.

Leaks.
The easy one is the locking collar for the salt chamber. Often works loose and allows water into the base.
Moderately easy one is the transfer hose and pressure chamber choking up, allowing water to overflow from the matrix into the base. Remove left hand side panel for access.
Nasty leaks are the circulation motor seals and the heater box seals. Repair involves expensive parts and lifting the stainless cavity off the base. Do-able, but labour intensive.
Occasionally, the base of the cavity can get pinholed by salt action. Awkward to spot, but cured easily with epoxy putty.

the salt chamber (where i put the salt in) is full of water and salt and has been for ages. could this be causing the problem then?
should the chamber just be full of salt and no water?
thanks

I’d be extremely worried if it wasn’t full of water…. Fill it with salt and it quickly dissolves. The water is gradually bled into the softener unit. The collar around the screw thread below the cap is the one that can work loose.

it stopped mid cycle again.
so basically make sure the cap to the salt chamber is done up correctly and hasn’t worked loose?
What steps should i follow now if the base keeps flooding?
Or
Call an engineer?
Am happy to have a go at checking the obvious before i call someone out.
Thanks again. Great help.

The next step is to drain the base then run it again and observe with the side panels off to spot the leak. The leak may not be immediately apparent while it runs but as soon as you detect more water appearing in the base then unplug and go looking with a torch if neccessary 😉

Thanks.
Will try tonight again. Does it drain from a certain part of the base. What i mean is can you get a container underneath to catch all of the water?
Do the side panels come off easily?
Def think it worth trying to fix just had a look and a similar model is about £450!

We can’t give specific advice on removing the panels (e.g. remove screw A and B etc) but they are pretty obvious when you examine them.
The easiest way to drain the base is to prop up the LHS so the machine leans to the right then sponge it all out….plug out at all times of course.September 3, 2008 at 10:23 pm #261568jonesp1

Hi,
I checked the collar to the salt chamber and it was really loose so water could have easily got into the base from there. I have now done it up as hard as i can by hand.
I have drained the base and have checked that the dishwasher empty’s correctly which it does.
Wasn’t brave enough to try a wash tonight as its late and i don’t think i could handle it not working after the effort to get the thing back i and mopping up all the water. I’ll give it a go tomorrow night.
Thanks for your help everyone.

Hi guys,
Just tried the dishwasher. For some reason it can empty out by doing the reset. Works fine the pump whirls and the water empties.
When i start the wash program about two minutes into it the dishwasher now trips my electricity out.
Could this be a case of water has got in somewhere it shouldn’t have?
Has anyone got any recommendations?
Thanks again

Yes, possibly there is water where it shouldn’t be….you’re now at the stage where you need a multimeter to track it down 😉

Aren’t all the electrics located on the RHSide? 😕

Yes…there are two connector blocks but they are specifically mounted up clear of the base. In fact the base could have a load of water in it but tipping to the right would allow the water to run underneath the connectors…and the RHS of the machine is comparatively open allowing access to mop it out 😉
