I have a Neff built in electric double oven which was previously working fine.

The top oven all functions are fine – no problems at all. Cooling fan comes on etc

The bottom oven switches on to any function fine but after it warms up for say 5 to 10 mins the electrics to the whole house trip. After reset you cannot switch bottom oven back on immediately until it cools down. Top oven can be switched back on straight away.

It does not matter which function you select on the bottom oven, after it gets hot, it trips. After being left for some time to cool down the oven takes longer to trip electrics again. If the bottom oven was already warm then almost trips instantly.

I set the temperature for the bottom oven but it seems as though the oven is ignoring the displayed temp and just getting hotter even though the thermostat light goes out. It does not matter what function you select to heat up the oven whether it is circotherm, bottom element or grill. It will trip even if you set a low temp of say 50 degrees C. The thermostat light shows 50 degrees has been reached but then it is getting hotter and if you move the temperature selector to a higher temp the light goes out indicating the oven is hotter than the original chosen temperature.

I assume there is only 1 cooling fan which works for both top and bottom ovens therefore is fine because the top oven is working OK? – it is coming on and sounds OK

Is it a faulty thermostat in the bottom oven if so would that trip the electrics?

    Would appreciate any advice.

as with most faults of this type you can never be 100{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} sure without testing but I would bet you have a faulty element

    Thanks for a quick reply.

I removed the main circular fan element in the bottom oven as it is easiest to access.

Switched it on to warm oven up using the other elements and it tripped after a while.

Does that point to either the grill element or the bottom element? Would an element cause a trip even if that particular element is not selected?

I disconnected each element in turn then switched oven on, no trips.

Have now reattached all the 3 elements back together and it does not seem to be tripping any more.

Ran all the bottom oven settings together for over 1 hour at over 200 degrees fine, no trips.

Seems very strange as before it would virtually trip straight away and without changing anything it seems to be working fine now, any thoughts?

One or more elements are at fault here. To establish which one requires testing each with a 500vdc insulation tester (often referred to as a Megger).
