my less than 5yr old U1661 double oven recently went bang leaving a smell of burning – which wasnt my cooking!

the bulb blew in the bottom oven (quite spectacularly). i have changed the bulb and checked the operation but all is not well.

the top oven is fine, but the bottom oven does different things depending on the selector. on different settings i can get each light to work or the fan or each heating element so it seems all the components work but not when they are supposed to. for example on std fan assist cooking mode nothing happens at all, but the grill setting works with just one light not both.

i’m sensing the worse which is a new controller being required? any hope of it being something else – does this sound common? is there a way of checking for sure the controller or the other components?

are these really to the tune of £160+

Sure sounds like it….certainly all the componets (i.e Element, fan, cooling fan, light fittings etc) will need checking to make sure they are OK otherwise fitting a new controller and it to go bang again…? 😥

i’ve checked each component in the oven by playing with the controller to get each element to heat up, etc and they do all seem to work normally inc. the temp sensor. There is no burning smell. I cannot remember at the time if the burning smell came from the oven or the controller, but it appears to be clear cut now which it must have been.
