Hi, I’ve got a built-in Neff fridge freezer, e-number K9724X4GB/06, just out of guarantee, wouldn’t you know it, and for a couple of days the freezer section hasn’t been as cold as it should be – only making minus 2 instead of minus 18. It still shows that it’s been factory set at minus 18 when you check. In the illuminated read-out at the top of the fridge it shows ‘AL’ continuously, which apparently means the freezer isn’t reaching its pre-set temperature: the alarm was going the other day but I’ve switched that off.

Does anyone recognise what’s wrong? Is there anything I can do, or is it definitely a repair call-out?

Hi, I’m afraid I dont have the answer for you but have the same problem with my Neff fridge freezer.

I was therefore wondering if you have managed to resolve the problem and if so, how??

    Thanks

    Jules

Just sent you a personal reply, but realised I should post one on the forum to help others. It seems this freezer may sometimes need to be defrosted in spite of it being sold as “frost free”. If it’s out of the guarantee period and you know that the fan is working, try unscrewing the panel at the back of the freezer behind the bottom drawers, and if it’s all iced up, defrost it (but not with a hairdryer!).

“Frost free” does not mean that it never needs defrosting. Article HERE.

Thanks for sending that article – I’ll print it and keep it for future reference; hopefully I won’t need it for a long time!
