ParticipantHi
I have a wide neff induction hob (4 rings + a warmer). It has never given me any problems but suddenly stopped working completely while i was turning it down from 9, which it had been on for a minute or two. The lights flicked on briefly when we tried to switch it on again, but now it’s totally dead. We have checked the circuit and power is fine (light is on on the switch). It is 5 years old.
I have called neff and they have persauded me to buy a repair plan – £14 a month for a year. This will cover the call out and any repairs but if it’s more than £300 they will deem it ‘uneconomical’ to dix and they will cancel the plan. I can then pay for the repair myself. Another engineer I spoke to agreed to charge £55 with a charge for parts as extra.
My question is: is this fault likely to be expensive to fix? If it’s the pcb board, wouldn’t it be only half of the hob affected, aa i think there are two? If it’s the sensor, will it be more than £300 to fix? I am also thinking it could just be a loose wire, in which case i am wasting my money on a repair plan. Do expensive parts go after just 5 years? Also, would neff charge me less for parts than a local engineer?
I have to cancel the plan asap if it’s not sensible – very grateful for any advice!

A model number will help so we can look up part prices and likely faults.
If it is a main PCB fault the £168 pounds for a repair and 12 months cover would be a good deal.
It may just be a simple fault and a £55 pounds call out may be all it cost to repair but if it is beyond economical repair then the neff deal would be the most economical as you would get a refund or you could ask if you could pay the additional cost on top of the £300 if it would cost more.
It is a gamble but if you let us know the model number then we maybe able to advise your best option.

The left hand PCB can be a problem sometimes on this model the cost of the PCB is £190 retail.
As it is about 5 years old I would go with the 12 months cover then if it is the PCB the cost should be below £300 and you will have 12 months cover if there is any more problems.
If you do not get any further problems you can always cancel the cover after 12 months.

Thanks – if it’s the left hand pcb wouldn’t the right hand side still work? I thought it might be the sensor technology that has failed. So basically you think it’s likely to be a new part required rather than something small, so go for the repair cover?

As I said it is a gamble but the odds favour the 12 month cover option.
