ParticipantMy Neff S 5443 is not washing the dishes properly. It has been working perfectly but recently the upper shelf dishes are not beng cleaned. I suspected that the arms were not turning and have cleaned out the little holes but it still doesn’t work properly. I suspect the arms are not spinning. Is there another possible reason or do I throw it away and get a new one?

If the water sounds as if it’s circulating properly then the arms may be worn.
Can you check the full model starting Enr from around the door please.
Dave.

Dave,
Many thanks – If I open the dorr when the machine is running water is seen coming out of the nozzles in the upper arm. I will check the specific machine number as you request – again many thanks

Insufficient water or a blockage in the water system the more usual reason for these symptoms. Needs a good service to check it out fully (see link below) if cleaning filters and spray arms fail to rectify.

I too have a NEFF integrated Dishwasher (S5453X0GB/19) that doesn’t wash properly.
I have checked the spraybars, the water channels, the filters etc etc and all seems OK. Sometimes even the soap tablet does completely disolve by the end of the programme.
Could there be a problem within the pump? Or the water heater? Is it possible to dismantle the pump?
How much is a new pump?
Thanks
Pete

Its unlikely to be the pump at fault, more likely there is a partial blockage in the water inlet system.
This is rarely serious and an easy fix for an engineer.
If you require one then have a look in Repairs@ to see if there’s someone local to you?

All
The “expert” arrived on time and immediately diagnosed a blocked pipe from the side chamber to the sump. After taking off the front of the machine the pipe was easily removed and was solid with “crud”. He cleaned it out, put everything back together and it works perfectly again. Time taken 30 mins – cost £59-50. Still cheaper than a new machine.
He did advise me that it is a dishwasher and not a waste disposal machine therefore all food should be scraped off before putting crockery in the machine. Training programme for two teenage kids now being followed through. He also advised regular use of dishwasher cleaner. £2-59 at Morrisons. Thanks for everybody’s time and advice.December 30, 2012 at 6:17 pm #161158echase

My S5443X2GB/44 is very similar. Top tray not washing well and when door opened water is coming out of the top spay bar nozzles but not always fast enough to turn the bar. It does sometimes turn (perhaps on rinse cycles when the water is less dirty and hence flows faster?).
Does not seem to be lot of water in it; after letting it drain down the spray bars it’s just up to the base of the salt cap mid way though the overall cycle.
It is about 9 years old. The top bar holes are not blocked and I have cleaned out the filters etc. although it is hard to clean out the slots that lead from the filter cavity to the pump.
On a separate issue this machine suffers from having one very long 50C cycle and one very short 35C one with no medium cycle. I’d rather have a medium cycle than the short one. Is it possible to change the 35C thermostat for say a 40 or 45C one so I would get a 40/45C medium cycle instead? I am an electronic engineer so feel I could make this change if feasible. Can I buy a suitable thermostat from you? Or does it use one sensor to measure both temperatures, in which case it would need an electronic tweak to alter the temperature?

That is the correct water level. The fault almost certain to be a broken diverter valve in the heater box. (A costly fix)

Definately NOT possible.

Does this S5443X2GB/44 model have a diverter? I thought diverters switched the water from the top to the bottom bars regularly and mine does not seem to do that as both bars ran together (I thought when I opened the door) when it was working well.

Oh yes, that’s why I figured right away what the problem may well be caused by.

Switching between top and bottom every 60 secs is what it is supposed to do. Your comment confirms yours is stuck mid-way between the two. So, that heater unit needs replacing is the ONLY cure.:(
