Hi,
the first bulb in my Neff oven lasted c4 years. However, three replacements (so far) have last a few days each.
Before I arrange an engineer’s visit, is there anything obvious that could be wrong with the oven?

Keep finger prints off the bulb as this can cause heat spots on the bulb.
If you have to use your fingers on the bulb wipe it with a soft cloth before putting the cover on.

Thanks – made sure that I did that too.
No fingerprints on the bulbs when changing.
Oh well, one more try then a call to Neff.

What is the model number of your oven by the way? Some makers of oven bulbs (e.g. Ring) are best avoided. Likewise Pygmy lamps are more reliable than globe types I find. Wattage also can be an issue and fitting a lower wattage, less bright I know, but can often last longer.

It’s a Neff U16E74N3GB.
I did wonder about the bulbs. Have bought a different brand from a local “old school” electrical shop as a last attempt.
Could there be something wrong with the oven causing the bulbs to fail or do you just think it’s a bulb issue?

Bulb housings can be an issue but as a rule the electrical contacts within them fuse together and blow the RCD. If a bulb works when screwed in then goes out later then it’s a failure of the bulb as a rule. Those 40watt globe bulbs are a pain and it may be worth just trying a 25 watt Pygmy bulb instead. As I say it gives less light but provided the lens is kept clean it’s bright enough. Worth a try at least. 💡
