ParticipantRecently the fan and light of my Neff B1641N0GB/01 oven have begun to intermittently turn off, always simultaneously. Eventually they both come on again, at the same time. Closing the oven door hard sometimes makes them come back on, so probably there is a loose connection. Does the fact that both of them go on and off at the same time give a clue about where the loose connection might be? Thanks for any help!

Moderatordoes the whole oven go on and off or
just the light and fan but all the rest stays on ?Dave

Moderatorsounds like it may be a control unit fault and according to the neff site they are £204
hopefully you may be able to strip it and find a bad solder joint or similar

ParticipantThanks, I’ll try that! If it doesn’t work, I think replacing the oven makes more sense than replacing the control unit (and maybe discovering that it wasn’t the problem after all) – it’s 19 years old

ParticipantDon Sanella did you get to the bottom of this? Would appreciate an update… I have EXACTLY the same thing happening. Fan and light turning off together. Intermittently. But more and more often. Inspited by your post I hit the front next to the control unit and it sprang back to life! A dodgy connection? Or something desoldered and a bit burnt out on the PCB? Would appreciate your thoughts anyway before I dive in… thanks

ParticipantOK follow up from me for anyone that’s interested… My fan and light would come on if I hit the fascia so I thought it may be a loose connection somewhere. It turned out to be a burnt out connection under one of the relays on the PCB. So I added some copper wire and remade. Seems to be working fine now. But blimey what a complete pain. Around 20 wires to take out and put back in the right order hopefully I got them right. Cleverly labelled them A-Z but then ended up wondering whether my ‘M’ was in fact a ‘W’. Should have taken a picture.

ParticipantQuestion to any expert….why would a pad burn out? Is the relay getting too hot for some reason / should I have replaced that also? I’m no expert but have had a go at fixing the odd dishwasher / washing machine etc. and it does seem like there is an issue with burn-outs on the PCBs which happen to be sold for completely ridiculous prices. Why is this? Why can’t they leave great fat tracks on the power rails and over-engineer them… wouldn’t cost a penny more. Anyway I’m pleased to have fixed but am wondering whether there is a relay fault and it will burn out again… any advice appreciated… thanks.

Moderatorits down to the way the pcb is made
as you know to solder a joint you have to heat the joint properly to make the solder flow. in a factory situation they wave flow the solder but the amount of time its heated is a compromise between the small and large components. you have to be careful you dont overheat the small ones. The result is the large connections like relays may not be soldered 100{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} and the joints can failDave
