ParticipantHave been looking at the Neff B57VS4NOB oven and the Neff C17MS32NOB combination microwave for a customer. She went to the John Lewis website to look at the reviews and Mumsnet and they came back with terrible reviews about the touch screen and software problems. Nearly all the JL users had trouble just getting the ovens to turn on and bad software to just put in a cooking time.
She is now very reluctant to have these Neff units fitted.Any service engineers that can throw any light on these latest touch screen appliances as I would not be able to state that they have fixed the problems or have the very latest units to purchase for her.

If its anything like the Smeg units then its mainly folks not bothering to read instructions- common story these days- having said that, a lot of these are stupidly complicated to use.

Hi eastimark
As Smeg and Neff are run I think by the same company and have shared components in them you could be right. Apparently some Neff users have had their Neff engineer in to change boards as the pick up on the capacitance feature of fingers touching the glass does not always register.
Seems to be very quite about these unnecessary features when a good old mechanical knob does the job. Want to turn up the heat on my van just rotate the knob by feel. If I use the Mrs Yeti have to stop and look down at the touch screen and play about just to turn the dam thing off. Will let the customer decide to go for a flashy glass front or back to a far cheaper model with mechanical switches.
So much for progress.FlyingBrick

Neff is a brand owned by Bosch Siemens Home Appliances (BSH), completely separate from Smeg, an independent Italian company. Smeg have in the past manufactured appliances for other brands, including BSH, but I don’t think they have any involvement with these ovens.
BSH sell a huge range of ovens under their three brands and I suspect there are some similar spec models with more conventional controls.

Thanks Stratfordgirl
Over the years so many companies have changed ownership it is fun keeping up with who owns what. Just the same with combination microwave ovens that have the same manufactured Chinese magnetron and transformer but with the oven company sticker on them.
Once one can suss out the original spec great savings can be made looking for a far cheaper item from the manufacture without the oven company sticky label put on afterwards.FlyingBrick

There is a software reflash that helps with the on/off button sensitivity.

Thanks BSH-MAN
My own kitchen is being pulled apart at the moment and my wife has ordered Neff appliances for the complete kitchen update after 24 years of use.
Will be interesting to see how well the cooker panel operates once I have installed the fittings and Neff microwave/ cooker plus other items.
Can’t beat the old knob switches for reliability. Our Zanussi fan oven has lasted 24 years without replacing anything on it.FlyingBrick
