    Hi everyone,

Is there anyone with any festive knowledge on our problem?

Our Neff S4453N0GB/13 dishwasher was switched on a couple of days ago. After leaving and coming back into the house a few hours later, it was still running (display showing “wash”). I asked my wife if she had put it on again and “no” was the reply. Very strange, as it has worked impeccably since 1999! On further investigations, the reset function did make the display change to “0” but the thing kept washing away and no water was drained out. Whatever I did, the display stayed at “Wash”, until a reset would force it to “0”. I managed to force the drain pump to work by operating the flood float switch, so the actual pump and the outlet plumbing was OK. I couldn’t find any similar problems on here, or anywhere else for that matter. The only common fault with this type of Neff/Siemens/Bosch machines seems to be the dry solder joint on the controls PCB causing the heater to fail. I investigated that, after realising that the water was not heating, and the joint was completely clear of solder. I soldered in a piece of wire, as suggested, and I now have hot water and the display seems to go through the cycle (wash, rinse, dry, 0) as one would expect. However, the machine seems to ignore what is shown on the display and just carries on, bashing away, washing for Britain. It doesn’t actually drain anything out, although it does add a small amount of clean water for the rinse, and no drying seems to happen (it is a bit difficult to tell if it is trying to dry with the thing merrily sloshing water about).

I suspect that the PCB has suffered some more damage than the obvious missing solder (The board was very black and there were marks out to the edges) but am concerned that there may be another cause that I am missing. Perhaps the water may not have been heating for a while and this is a bit of a red herring, although I am sure our recent dishes would have not been quite as clean as they have been.

Before splashing out £120 on a new PCB, is there anything else that you helpful people think that I can check? i.e. Is there a sensor that tells the processor to activate the drain pump now or is it just a timed thing and the PCB’s processor thinks it is doing it but the PCB’s control of the drain pump has gone belly up? I am aware that there are refurbished boards available but am not sure about taking that route after having problems with refurbished PCBs at work. The water matrix and the float/diaphragm assembly look pretty clear, compared to the pictures of some examples on this site and the water is going in OK and out again, when I operate the float switch. The only thing I would add here is that there is a small leak of water from the diaphraghm assembly (where the upper part of the assembly goes in to the neck of the lower part) when the door is opened and then switched on again, when it has hot water in the tray. Pressure seems to build up in the washing cavity and cause a small blow back. It seems to be fine when left to run without any interference. Perhaps another possible clue, or red herring?

Thanks in advance for any suggestions or guidance.

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

    Mike.

It’s not a “logical” fault, therefore the pcb is the culprit.

Thanks for your ultra speedy reply Penguin45.

That kinda confirms what I have come to suspect. I have ordered a new PCB from BSH at £117.33 and will let you know what the outcome is.

I take it that this “known” dry joint problem has been fixed in these new PCBs and it won’t happen again, or is that too much to ask?

Is the small blow back leak at the pressure/float assembly, when interrupting the programme and opening and closing the door on a hot machine, a problem, or nothing to worry about.

What a fabulous website and service. More power to your elbow.

Cheers to you, and everyone else who may read this, over the festive period.

    Mike.

At a glance, the new boards are identical; but I’ve never been back to one for the burnt out relay connection problem, so that must say something.

You should try and deal with the leak. Usually, a thorough strip down and clean of the chamber and the hose connected to it will sort things – it may be worth checking the matrix for a crud build-up top left corner. A good flushing and shaking will get rid of it.

4/5 is my birthday – May the Fourth be with you……

    Cheers,

    Thanks again Penguin45.

I will have a go at stripping the assembly down and see what happens. There is a small area of discolouation at the top of the matrix. I will have a go at that as well.

I will let you know how I get on once the new PCB has arrived.

Enjoy your festive break and happy birthday when it comes.

    Cheers.

Re: Neff S4453N0GB/13 Washing forever. No draining or hot wa

    Dear Penguin45.

There was virtually nothing the the pressure assembly to remove, just a small algae type area above where the water flows in. I did manage to dislodge some of the gunge at the top of the matrix and fitted the new control panel assembly. We have used the machine a few times since, and everything seems tickety-boo. We will just make a mental note to not interrupt the hottest programmes and avoid the small leak.

Thanks again for your advice and guidance.

    Keep up the good work.

    Mike.

    PS: Happy New Year.
