ParticipantI went to a dishwasher that is dead.
The main chip on the PCB and one of the small IC’s has blown.
I have tried to trace the fault back but following the tracks doesn’t lead directly to any components.
Has anyone seen damage to the same area and traced what could have caused it?January 28, 2017 at 2:16 pm #444863electrofix

looking at that i would guess possible water damage
none of the track seem to lead out to any component and if they did and that components had failed i would expect 1 or 2 blown tracks but you have had a full blown fire in one place

Thanks Dave,
I wasn’t sure if the fire caused the IC and chip to blow or the other way round.
There are no obvious signs of water ingress however it’s possibly a water mark on the solder joint to the right of the burn mark.
It transpired when I got to this machine that it’s still under warranty but wanted to try and find out the likely cause for my own satisfaction.January 28, 2017 at 6:49 pm #444865electrofix

you can never rule out condensation in boards that are mounted at the bottom of the machine especially in old cold property

Conditions in this kitchen didn’t seem to lend themselves to condensation (unlike some I’ve worked in) but definitely worth considering.
Thanks for the input Dave.

Just to give a final update to this;
BSH looked at the machine and felt it might be caused by water so they are replacing for the customer.
Thanks for the advise Dave.February 7, 2017 at 5:19 pm #444868Martin

Water from where that BSH felt responsible enough to replace it? Are we talking design fault here that BSH are quietly swapping out?

As I mentioned before “there are no obvious signs of water ingress however it’s possibly a water mark on the solder joint to the right of the burn mark”.
There were no other indications of damp or moisture, the insulation pad alongside the PCB was also dry. The PCB case is well enclose so the most likely cause as electrofix suggests would be condensation but there wasno indication of this other than the mark on the PCB.
Maybe there is a design fault, it would be interesting to know. -
