This machine, which is about 8 years old, died mid-cycle with dirty water still in the bottom. All of the usual indicator lights are out and pressing power button on and off has no effect and neither does the machine make any encouraging noises.
I have cleaned the pump filter and checked that it is free and cleaned the cold water feed filter. I have also checked mains plug fuse and power socket which are all OK as is the mains filter/interference unit on the machine. There is no water in the base.
I have visually checked over the rest of the machine, which appears in good condition and I can see no obvious problems. I have also examined the PCB but again there are no signs of burning or dry solder joints. I did note that a few components tails were not soldered to the board but assumed this is intentional as the machine has functioned normally from new until now.
Is there anything I should look at again before assuming the PCB is dead?

    Thanks

you need to find out if you are getting 240V supply to that module
I would not buy anything until you can establish that -try and trace the power line in from suppressor – door micro a possibility, on/ff s/w also ???

Easiest check of all : With the power on lift the anti-flood lever on the LHS. If the drain pump operates the Control Unit (aka PCB) is faulty.

We don’t encourage LIVE testing Mr Melec here in the UKW :zap:

    That’s a great 1st step
Are you saying then that if the pump starts up , it proves the module beyond reasonable doubt ?
If it is still dead would you diagnose a module/pcb

    Re: Neff S5453X1GB/74

    Gentlemen
Thank you for your input and advice. Lifting the anti-flood lever does indeed cause the drain pump to opperate or at least something makes a noise that sounds like a pump! Does this then prove beyond all reasonable doubt that the Control unit is knackered? If so I am quite happy replacing this myself, given that I have already discovered how to remove it, rather than pay an engineer to do it for me (quoted £75 +VAT for call out and first half hours labour)!
However, I note there appears to be 2 different units for this machine, one described as ‘Control Module’ at around £89.00 and the other as ‘Module Pcb-control at around £140.00 Sods law will no doubt dictate that I need the dearer unit but can anyone explain the difference? Obviously I need to remove the old unit again and check the part number before ordering.

    Thank you again in anticipation.

There is only one ‘Control Module’ to your machine the part number is 00641159. It costs £61.72 including VAT direct from Neff via their website. If you order from anywhere else you’ll get ripped off. It will also come with ‘configuration instructions’ enclosed. (Order elsewhere and you don’t necessarily get those vital instructions even after being ripped off beforehand).

The test I suggested in lifting the float to see if the pump works virtually guarantees that the Control a Module is at fault. I do not advise live testing of the door switch or the on/off switch as what you have done proves they work fine.

    Martin

Thank you very much for your further insight and advice. £61.72 is actually the excluding VAT price but no matter, £74.06 is a good deal less than I was expecting and at least I now know what to buy the wife for Christmas!!

    Best regards

I am 100{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} sure that the fault will indeed end up being a module but my limited knowledge tells me that when the float switch or aquastop as I call it is activated then it continues working even when you open the door of the dishwasher ?
So then logically that means the pump gets a direct supply bypassing door micro switch so that test will not suffice there ? As for the on off switch I will get back to you on that – need to check !!

    Re: Neff S5453X1GB/74

Unbridled Joy! The new Control Module arrived and fitted today and normal operation has been restored. We even now have a warning beep if the door is opened during cycle and when it reaches the end of the programme, which we didn’t before or it wasn’t working. Sussing out the programming instructions took a bit of head scratching but was quite straightforward in the end.
I seems I won’t now have to spend Christmas chained to the sink washing up all the Christmas dishes! One Happy Bunny and Missus. Thanks once again for your help and advice.
