ParticipantItems in top tray not being cleaned properly.
It’s difficult to be sure but I don’t think the top arm is receiving water.
Both arms spin, neither arm is blocked, the tube underneath the top basket is clear.Any suggestions?
How do I detach the flat grey tube that runs up the back and provides the water to the top arm?
Is there a drawing on line anywhere? Thanks!
Dave

How much water is in the tub after its completed its filling phase? (Stop it after 5 mins, open door and check) 😉
If there’s plenty of water in the tub it could be a faulty heater unit? If there is insufficient water, there could be a water inlet problem?
If you need someone to check it out for you then please click on the link below. 🙂

It’s filling to just below the door line (the right place) and heating up OK.
The bottom arm is spinning but I’m certain the top one isn’t, although it can be spun freely by hand.
I got the grey tube off (spring clip and 2 torx screws) – it’s not blocked. It seems to connect to the pump via a separate outlet, – is there a separate diverter valve controlling water to the top arm? If so, any idea how I get to it?

is there a separate diverter valve
Indeed there is. However it’s not a DIY job to replace I’m affraid. Involves a complete strip down of the m/c.
I would double check the spray arm though. Also make sure it is on the highest setting and nothing is obstructing it.

Hi
Just to add to Boro’s post. Its not unheard of for the diverter valve to pop the electronic module aswell, just to give you a worse case scenario 🙂For reference and if required –
Instantaneous water heater (483058) £64.80 + costs
Module (494201) – £76.30 + costs
Parts are available from spares@ukwhitegoods.co.uk 😉Un-plug appliance if you are to investigate :plug:

You might want to check this first:

Stay safe – power off if investigating.

Thanks to all for the suggestions so far.
I just overrode the door switch so I could see what was going on …
… loads of water is getting to the top arm and spraying out of the holes but it’s not spinning – yet it spins freely by hand and the jets aren’t blocked.
With nothing to lose I decided to drill a couple of small holes in the sides of the arm ends to give it a “turbo boost” – hey presto, it now rotates 😀I suppose the pivot parts of the arm are worn and too much water is escaping – so I need to replace them.
Are they available separately? where from?A couple of points that may help others:
– the top and bottom baskets seem to be fed alternately with about a 5 second interval
– to make it even vaguely feasible to look inside with the pump running I removed the bottom arm and put an upturned bowl over the outlet.
– the top basket is fed from the rear; if you don’t prevent the basket from moving forward the water pressure will push it and you then get a jet of water straight at you 😳
– use a loop of wire to hook the door switch back to the off position when you’ve finished. Now I’m off to mop the kitchen, find some dry clothes and look for a new arm pivot.

Many Thanks Greg, email sent.
This has made me really curious about how dishwashers work. Are there any diagrams online?
