E No. V4380X0GB/13. The drier fan is not turning, I think the capacitor has failed. I dismantled the fan assembly to check for fluff build up etc and what looked like half a grommet fell out. I assume this is a seal which goes between the fan motor and the fan. I can’t find this seal in Quickfinder so does that mean you have to buy the whole assembly to get one?

To be honest I really don’t know what it could be? That’s assuming you haven’t dismantled the fan from the stator – as it could then be a vital internal part of the motor for sure!)

They do not usually suffer from fluff blockages in the fan housing. Only motors I have changed on these have been because they have either shorted windings or simply gone open circuit, don’t think I have changed any capacitors either 😕

Fluff builds up in the condenser ducting just above the corrugated rubber hose at the bottom though, so will need a good clear out as well. Check and reset the heater stat and take a gander at the NTC on the front heater duct 😉

Only seal I can see is 058811.

Goes round fan and heater box.

Never had to change a cap though ❓

Yes, I did take the fan off, it’s only held on with an Allen grubscrew. The windings are not open circuit but they could have shorted turns. I tend to change the capacitor first in such cases before fitting a motor costing megga bucks. The motor gets hot but does not seem to hum.058811 is a sealing strip, I think the bit I need is a rubber grommet type seal that goes on the motor spindle where it passes through the alloy casting between the motor and the fan. I suppose if the motor is U/S anyway I don’t need to worry about this though 😥

The new capacitor cured the fault so I did not fit a new £120 fan motor. In the end we glued part of a grommet to the casing on the fan side as there was not enough clearance on the motor side for a normal grommet. 8)
