KeymasterI wonder if anyone could help.
My neff washer dryer was not working earlier today and the repair man came and got it going (Carbon on the brushes).
When I did a wash after he ahd gone the drum was turning but very slowly throughout the wash and the spin didn’t really get going.
Does anyone have any idea what is the matter ?

The new brushes need time to ‘bed in’. They are un-powered when they are new.
Give the washer an easy time for a couple of washes (no bedding or towels). Even do a wash with no clothes inside.
If this doesn’t work, call the engineer that repaired the machine.

Thanks for your reply Goatboy.
The brushes were new about 9 months ago – this time they were just cleaned up – so perhaps they will have to be changed again 🙁

Not the Cathy Kirb, surely?
If your machine has run satisfactorilly (sp?) for nine months and is only now showing the symptons, it would point to an armature fault with the motor. Difficult to be more exact without the model number – check around the door opening and door surround – it should be there somewhere.

Hi, Penguin45,
No, not THE one – just one whose Dad remembers THE one 🙂
Yes, the repair man came back today and said that basically a new motor is required – apparently it is one small part thereof that is not working – the machine washes, rinses etc as normal but won’t do a decent spin – but that the manufacturer will only sell the whole motor for just under £200 🙁
The model number is V438OXOGB/12

Tell me….. I only know ‘cos of my Dad!
Anyway motor is p/no 140867 @ £170.38 + VAT, so your repairer is telling you the truth. No parts apart from brushes available, so it is the full unit.
Given that the machine is a high spec washer dryer with digital control, it is worth considering as it is will be below half the purchase cost of the machine and in my experience is a “bad luck” fault – very rare for a motor to fail completely.
Hope that’s some help,
Regards,

I looked at the cost of replacing the whole machine and suddenly the new motor looked like a bargain !
Thanks for your advice.
