ParticipantFive year old U1421 double oven. It has had three new elements and one new fan. Now I notice that it’s very slow to heat up. If you push against the door whilst it’s running, the noise of the fan becomes much less. When you open the main door, the springs do not support the weight of the door – it just falls open. So should I get new hinges or just take the whole heap of junk to the tip? And are the weak springs possibly the cause of this thing eating elements?

Getting new hinges is not that costly plus it may need yet another element if it’s slow to heat up? Either that or the door is not sealing correctly and heat is escaping 😕

hi
the normal cause of the door not closing correctly is due to the door being used as a shelf when open,it’s a door not a shelf.
the door hinge receivers are the most likely cause when this happens and you would normally not need to change the actuall hinges.
if the fan fails then this will cause the element to fail due to the way they are designed to work,or that they are of an inferior quality.
the oven is repairable and not normally known for major faults.

Thanks for the replies. I can’t see how it could be the hinge reciever because the door falls open as though the springs are too feeble to support it?

I know how to change the hinges but any chance of some guidance on replacing the hinge recievers? Can I just pull the cooker forwards in the kitchen unit or does it have to come completly out? Do I have to take the panel off the side of the cooker?

Side panel off from memory I’m afraid 🙁
You may be lucky and find there is a small gap below them so they will drop out but it’s getting the new one’s back in position (fiddly ;))

Installed the new bits (espares took ‘kin ages to supply their overpriced hinges). Huge inprovement – heats up quicker, cooks things 30{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} quicker. No change in fan noise when pressing againt the door, so the new springs are holding it tightly closed.
