ParticipantHi guys. I have just last night taken delivery of a new Bosch WAN 24100GB/22 washing machine. FD9807. Have tried a couple of the programmes this morning and can’t smell any fabric conditioner on the washing at the end despite adding a capful of concentrated Lenor to the dispenser in the middle. It’s as if it is being washed away too early. I have arranged for an engineer to come out and take a look but can anyone shed light on this ? Thanks.

Usual cause of this is either over filing the conditioner compartment or slamming the drawer instead of pushing it in gently.

So I have added one capful of fabric conditioner as per instructions. Not even up to max fill level line. Dispenser drawer does catch on closing fully and you have to push it in to get it to shut but no slamming.

Try it with half a capful and try to close the drawer as gently as possible and see what happens. A capful of concentrated conditioner is a bit too much anyway.

To be honest I don’t believe that there’s a problem here. If there was it’s one I’ve never heard if before. Just one capful of fabric conditioner, doesn’t exceed the ‘MAX’ marker, is rinsed away and the washing machine completes the cycle as expected. The only ‘problem’ is not being able to smell the conditioner on the washed clothing afterwards. How could that possibly warrant calling out an ‘engineer?’ (Besides a no-fault call out may incur a charge)
Possible reasons : The detergent used could offset the perfumed conditioner? Fabrics washed on the incorrect cycle, wrong temperature? Washing dirty clothes on a quickwash cycle? Synthetic fabrics usually do not retain much or any detergent or fabric conditioner perfumes if washed on the correct cycle.
Finally, the only way to be certain that the fabric condition isn’t released until the final rinse is to carefully open the detergent drawer after the machine has stopped filling on each and every intermediate fill cycle.
HTH? 😀

Hi Martin. I have used 2 programmes so far. Dark wash and Mixed load. Both with option buttons for temp( 40 degrees wash) and spin speed (1200).Duration of wash has been 45 mins and just over an hour. I have used the correct amount of detergent and fabric conditioner for each according to the instructions on the packet/bottle. My recently departed Bosch Classixx used the same quantities of each and left my washing smelling of fabric conditioner, hence why I am confused as to why the washing smells of neither soap powder nor fabric conditioner now.I am also perplexed as to why the soap dispenser drawer has to be pushed shut at the end point. It is impossible not to jog the drawer trying to get it past the sticking point. Surely it should shut smoothly?

I would agree with you there, it should indeed. Which now prompts my next question, have you taken the drawer out to check for any obstructions?

I had this a while ago with a customer. If I remember correctly these models like most other Bosch machines take the conditioner at the start of the cycle according to Bosch technical.
One way to check is to carefully open the detergent drawer early into the wash cycle to see if this is the case.
We suggested an extra rinse and spin after the wash cycle with a small amount of conditioner which seemed to do the trick.

Not so Don, the fabric conditioner/softener is only released at the start of the final rinse cycle.
Yes even Bosch machines destined for sale in Devon. As you Devonions correctly put the clotted cream on before the jam, the Bosch washes the clothes first with detergent than adds that softener finally. Perfect! 😉

So I kept checking the fabric conditioner compartment and the fabric conditioner was washed out with the last rinse(BTW I have been known to partake of a scone or two and it’s cream first then jam for me)The washing smelt faintly of fabric conditioner at the end. I will keep the call out appointment that the Helpline operator decided to arrange (Remember I only rang the Helpline for advice not to book a service call ) as I still think that the soap dispenser drawer needs looking at.

The drawer is fine, the final push closed is how it is designed.
