ParticipantHi,
After realising that I can’t get a gas supply to my hob – I want to buy a new electric hob. I have tried to do some research into the best makes/models and have become completely loss and would appreciate and (dis)recommendations.
I of course want the control over heating and cooling that gas gives – I have a standard size 4 hob hole in my worktop with suitable power.
It seems that the majority of hobs are ceramic glass topped, then more expensive are halogen, then induction.
Assuming I can’t afford the induction, should I be spending the extra for halogen? I have been told that the bulbs can be expensive to replace? Since I have a limited budget (300-400) should I be aiming for a better ceramic hob, that a cheap hallogen?
Also – touch controls. Are they any good? I have images in my mind of pans boiling over, and not being able to control the hob as there is boiling water all over the controls?
Any advice anyone has would be great – or pointers to other pages with advice!
Thanks,

Hi
I would go for a ceramic hob rather than halogen, there is very little difference when it comes to reaction speed and yes the pots are more expensive.
When we refitted our kitchen just over a year ago we went for a Neff T1323 as it was frameless ( no little dirt edging to keep cleaning) touch control (again much easier to keep clean) and it also looks good. The touch controls are easy to use and the child lock is useful when the grandkids are around 😉

Hi,
Thanks for the advice – I am trying to justify spending the money on your suggestion!
My wife on the other hand thinks that I should spend as little money as possible 🙁 Any opinions on this?

Cost mainly – floorboards would have to come up in two rooms, and that would involve removing fitted carpet and flooring…

Hi Morsey
The John Lewis branded stock in the main is produced by the Electrolux / Zanussi group so it should be okay. To be on the safe side the 5 year warranty is a good bet at £31 for peace of mind.
