ParticipantCan anyone explain to me how to breakdown the annual consumption of a washing machine based on the new energy rating per load?
The older one seems straightforward to understand as it was based on per load but with the advances of appliances reaching the ratings of A+ as well A++ even A+++ thus completely changed the format based on annual consumption.
How on earth can one work it out the water consumption per load based on the annual consumption? It’s so confusing!!
I thought it was based on one load a day, but nah it does not add up, I tried 5 loads a week, but nah, then tried 3 loads a week, but close but 4 loads a week is plausible.

Sorry but I’m darned if I know the answer to your question. There’s a big thing going on at the moment round my neck of the woods of folks having FREE Solar Panels nailed on their rooftops. Then hooking the power up to their domestic appliances. Meanwhile they are digging big holes in their back yards sinking wells in the hope of finding the water to wash with.
Meanwhile, if the label says green then it must be OK to buy.

That’s the old label Martin ๐ New one attached.
Virtually all manufacturers still quote litres per cycle in their brochures and in the tech spec on their websites. At least then you can work it out to litres per cycle.
I just checked a bosch WAS28461 I have on display. The annual water consumption is quoted as 10500 litres, brochure states it uses 56 litres per cycle which comes out at 3.6 loads per week. Which makes your 3 to 4 loads per week spot on.
So using the above example you could apply the maths the other way without knowing the litres per cycle by calculating 10500 รท 52รท3.6 which equals 56 litres per wash.
Now I need a lie down after that at this time in the morning ๐

Thanks guys.
Still I don’t get it, why change it if the old one works so well? Like Martin says, if it is green than buy it. Now the new energy rating have different shades of green.
Army green is good
Green leaves green is better
Golf course grass Green is even betterOf course to us guys it’s the opposite as they use lesser water and much lower temperature thus more gunk in the machine- the greener the machine is, the more work is for us to clean it out!

The consumption figures are based on 220 standard wash cycles per year.
Check out the Commision Delegated Regulation (EU) No. 1061/2010.

I did check up that regulation using Google and the fomulae they use to get these regs established and ratified is very complex indeed. ๐

It is a moot point for many though as, in the lifespan of the product you cannot recover the energy used in production in the savings.
You also can’t really get any extra money spent on an A+, A++ to an army of +s in savings in reality.
We ran and ran the numbers, so did DEFRA, WRAP and a few others and it just doesn’t ever work out as most machines these days don’t last long enough to reap any benefit from this whatsoever.
Gave the EU Commission something to do before they had to work out how to rescue the Euro. ๐

Sounds familiar??? Same thing applies to cars and vans! All the energy gone into producing summat energy efficient never will be recovered even with 70+ mpg.
The only way to recover energy is to stop using it! The more you don’t use it, the longer it lasts. :clown:
