    Hi,

I need to buy a new washing machine quite quickly as it appears the bearings have failed on my 15 year old Zanussi and the cost to repair is likely to push towards the cost of a new machine. It has a 5kg drum and we have probably been guilty of overloading it for the last few years.

We are probably classed as heavy users, doing 5-10 washes per week, couple of cottons washes for towels/bedding plus several synthetics washes for clothes with varying levels of dirt removal required. We also have dogs though I do avoid putting their bedding in the machine most of the time.

We have an 8kg drier which most of the washing goes into at this time of year, so thinking I don’t really want more than an 8kg machine.

Any recommendations for a freestanding machine, max width 60cm, max depth ideally about 56cm. Budget is pretty tight so Miele etc are probably off the table. Main criteria other than that is a decent rinse cycle as I have sensitive skin.

    Hi

The only machine that will cope with that sort of use will be the Miele models. I don’t know at what stage they would say this is commercial usage. Your everyday run of the mill machines will not last much more than 4 to five years tops. A good read of how long you can expect a machine to last before potential failure and life span is here

Dog blankets should be hoovered first to try and get as much hair out as possible washed and then put the machine onto a “maintenance wash” ie the hottest wash with some whites wash powder which has bleach in it.

IIRC Miele can programme an extra rinse if needed onto their machines. Or you simply use a rinse and spin programme after the main wash cycle. Some Bosch models do give a higher rinse level via the aqua plus option.

    HTH 😀
