ParticipantHi, i’m new to the site and had a good look around over the last week or so and now feel i know all there is to know about appliances.
Not! 🙂
So looking for some opinions and views on what i was thinking of getting, got a ballpark figure of £3k to get a side by side fridge freezer, built in electric oven(either double or single), built in micro, electric ceramic hob, hood, built in dishwasher and built in washing m/c.
My g/f has her heart set on a samsung american f/f for the ice and cold water…i know!! :rolls:
Was thinking siemens for the oven, micro and hob…really have no idea about hoods, are they just for show? And for the integrated dishwasher and washing machine i was looking at electrolux.
As you can tell, what i know about white goods you could write on the back of a stamp so any help would be greatly appreciated! :tup:Cheers

Hi Gaz
I would recommend the Siemens appliances everytime, extremely good quality, two year warranty and stylish in looks.
When it comes to cooker hoods they do need to be functional as well as looking good this article explains all you need to know to be able to make an informed choice.
Steer the other half away from the Samsung if you can 😉 you could always show her some of the threads in the refrigeration forum 😉 then ask her to read this article from the buying advice section.
Hmm Electrolux dishwasher and integrated washer, any particular models you had in mind as there may be other options?

That 3k would have to stretch a bit more to go for what u were thinking of.
I worked out roughly:siemens b/i mw £350
siemens 60 hob £450
siemens s/oven £550
siemens 60 chi/hood £300
elux b/i w/m £700
elux b/i d/w £600
samsung us f/f £850which i make £3800?!?!?
If the mrs has her heart set on water and ice, you can still get table top ice makers, that complete a small load – enough for 2 in 15 mins.
as for cold water on tap, whats wrong with… well a tap 🙂
PS water and ice on a us side by side = less usable room in the freezer than a standard undercounter!
Electrolux and samsung both produce separate upright fridge and freezers with ice and water functions, which offer you the space that you dont get with a US. reliability is still a concern as the latest units havent been out for too long.
you could also alternatively go with a 800 wide/top-fridge from fisher and paykel. they also have a dispenser 🙂
As for the microwave, save urself 200 quid buy a stainless steel panasonic and sit it on the worktop. most of the built-ins will either be daewoo or panasonic internals anyway, so all your paying for is the fancy front and trim. if it must be built in then daewoo make some thats about £190-220 retail, inc the kit, but just make sure you check whether you need the 500mm or 600mm unit 🙂
if i had a strict 3k, id be looking at going bosch over siemens for the ovens as the 5yr siemens warranty only applies to freestanding machines, and bosch over the elux d/w as they are just simply better imo
bosch int d/w £500
bosch double oven £700
vitralux hob – 60cm £300
luxair hood £150
siemens freestanding w/m £500
panasonic s/s t/t m/w £150
leaving you with £700 for a F/F
total cost approx £3000
obviously shave a bit off the oven by going single (£250) and you can put that towards a liebherr or f&p f/fJanuary 7, 2010 at 4:12 pm #307463gazcoign

Cheers for the input lads, still working on costs so fingers crossed i can get as near as poss to budget. Made a few changes regarding what i’ve read on here, but the samsung or equiv. f/f stays…certain things will not be moved! 🙁
Anyway, got it down to Siemens IQ500 single oven and micro, was keen on Siemens hob and hood but price seems ott so revising choice, Neff S54M45XOGB dishwasher and still undecided on washing machine..i must have looked at every combo on the net! 😕
Again, thanks for(and because of) the help, i’m getting there. 🙂Gaz
