I need to replace my freestanding fridge freezer (9 year old manual defrost Hotpoint) as was told by local repairman over the phone that likely fault with the compressor motor (it’s making a running water noise and not cooling) and not going to be cost effective to repair.

I have limited height – current model (Hotpoint EXRM171P) is ~176cm and think have a max height of ~178cm (have beams so another 5cm or so of ventilation space), and looking for fridge freezer that’s about 60cm wide – have another 5-10cm space width (sitting next to my washing machine/dryer in the utility room), and plenty of depth space.

Initially looking at these two Bosch options and leaning towards the serie 4 one as generally better features (being higher model) and more internal space, although this would be at the expense of the frost free (on the series 2, vs low frost on the series 4). Found it for £479 (excluding delivery). But on reading this forum there wasn’t much positive about Bosch – was looking at Liebherr but only one that fits is 170cm and it’s a lot more expensive (>£800). Are there any other models/brands to consider? Any thoughts on which is best out of these two Bosch ones or if should avoid them altogether?

    BOSCH Serie 4 KGV33VLEAG
    BOSCH Serie 2 KGN33NLEAG
    LIEBHERR CNd5023

Thanks in advance for any help

If you can afford the Liebherr price tag that would be my first choice everytime. The low frost on the Bosch is almost as good as frost free so the series 4 would be my choice.

Thanks Don – would the Samsung be an okay option? Can get for around £150 second hand about 6 years old in seemingly good condition. How long do these last? Have an 8 seater car I could lay seats flat on and transport on the side, which seems like a good budget option

Any second hand purchase is a gamble, there are all sorts of wuestions you should ask. Why are they selling, you need to see it working, what condition is it in, are the plastics inside good? As the old saying goes Caveat Emptor ( buyer beware).

If you can satisfy all these then it may be worth a gamble. When transporting on it’s side make sure no water drips will get to any electrics, when you get it home leave to stand for 24 hours just to make sure it’s dry and for the gas and oil in the system to relevel.

Thanks for the advice – in the end I decided to go for new, and given your comments on low frost, I went for the series 4.
