ParticipantThanks for sharing your expertise here for free…already much appreciated. I’m in the market for a new fridge freezer. We eat a lot of fresh veggies and not much meat (can you tell I’ve read the buyer’s guide which also helped me to get clear on the spec). I don’t need an ice or water function. Width needs to be 60cm. I live in Brighton where we have a couple of good independent stores and also a secondhand seller who looks to have reasonable stock. I also live in a rented place so do I opt for a good name second-hand model or just jump in and buy a new appliance, banking on being able to take it with me when I move out (I’m not planning to leave for a good few years). All suggestions greatly appreciated. Thanks 🙂

Hi
As you are going to be in your current accommodation for a few years and wanting to take it with you when you move I would go with a new machine.
You haven’t mentioned budget yet ❓

I’m happy to leave it behind. I think you can buy appliances telling yourself you’ll take them with only to find they don’t fit in a new house or you’re faced with an integrated kitchen anyway. I’ve just seen a Liebherr from 2010 (Comfort model) offered locally on Gumtree. 2 freezer drawers and 4-draw fridge. Based on the ‘Liebherr’ love I’ve seen on these forums it sounds worthwhile but I guess it’s out of warranty. Priced at 220 but open to offers. What do you think?

Don’t do it is my best advice :eeek:
You don’t know where it has come from nor do you know it is fully functioning either. Yes by all means go down the reconditioned route with a retailer whereby you will get a guarantee and some come back should there be a problem.

Ok – that’s the whole point of asking an expert, thanks for that. So, if I go for a new FF, budget around £300-400, what should my shopping list look like? It sounds like I might get a deal on a Siemens or should possibly opt for a Bosch…? (Last question – I promise!).

Hi
Bosch and Siemens are part of the same group, so either will be a good bet for your budget 😀
