ParticipantHaving just read the Dishwasher article I’m at a loss.
Looking to buy our first dishwasher having just moved into our first house. Original budget was £200, but after reading the article, decided we should push it up to £300 if absolutley necessary.
Full size will fit in our kitchen, but there is only two of us (would be good to get all the pans in though), and decent looking silver or stainless steel will match the rest of the kitchen the best.
Now, I know I’m not going to get a clear recommendation at that price, but the best of a bad bunch will have to do.
Seen a Smeg 612sdx for 299.95 at the weekend and it looks solid and well made from the outside, though I guess that means little, if anything.
I think 4 or 5 years use with little or no need for repair would be fair for £300, am I being optimistic?
Cheers.

SMEG seems to raise mixed emotions among repairers. Personally, I’m a fan and have one myself.
You might like to consider the DF612WE, which drops into the price bracket.
Others include the Zanussi ZDF511S and the Whirlpool ADP7406S which would be adequate for your described use.

ParticipantBe aware that once you have bought a dishwasher, THERE IS NO GOING BACK” 😉
As a 2-3 person household which has occasional influxes of guests, I have to say that the dishwasher is an excellent invention, and we put everything in it that we can. We have some lead crystal wine glasses and desert dishes that can’t go in, and certain glasses and crockery with surface decoration should not go in, so check when buying this sort of thing too. Other than that, almost everything that will physically fit in the machine goes in!
One thing to check is the size of dinner plate the dishwasher will take. Some cannot accommodate the larger plates: our 13″ dinner plates only just fit in the lower basket with the upper adjustable one in the highest position. The smaller dinner plates will fit in both top and bottom with the basket in the lower position. Take a dinner plate with you when you go to buy!

Go for the Zanussi Kev O it`s got great spec for a machine at that price. All backed up by a nationwide service network should the need arise. The Whirlpool build is nothing like the Zanussi.
Good advice from Kate as well when it comes to plate sizes 😉

Good stuff, thanks for that.
Any recommended retailers for the Zanussi? Or now I know the model to get is it ok to just go where ever is most convenient/the cheapest. I’m in the Northwest – Cheshire area.
Thanks again.

Apparently we can get a 25{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} discount from Tesco via a family member.
Would http://direct.tesco.com/q/R.202-4016.aspx this be a better buy with the 25{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} reduction? I only read good things about most Bosch models, is this one of them?
Cheers.

The Bosch is by far the superior machine in every way Kev, has a two year warranty as well.
With the 25{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} discount to boot it comes down to £260 odd which is a cracking buy in anyones book 😉
I just checked our buying price for that machine. I cannot buy it in with the VAT at £260 😯 and thats direct too 😕

That looks like a good bargain. Go for it, if you need to buy now. Don’t forget to try the dinner plate in it… 😆
Don, how does it compare on price and specs with the ISE dishwasher due out later this year?

Hi Kate
The dishwasher is due in the early part of June that I do know. I havn`t seen any spec or price myself, but I`m sure Ken or someone in the know will be able to tell.
If the quality is anything like the washing machines It will be impressive in every way 😉

Hi Kev
All depends if you are one of the “I want it now brigade” or not 😆
If you can hang on then I would say it will be well worth the wait 😉

What is it we are even talking about? 😯 😀
A new manufacturer? New model? New range? New technology?
Worth the wait in reliability or for features?
I know you said you don’t know the price, but is it likely to be in my price bracket or will it be in the higher end? 😕 😕 ❓
