ParticipantOur trusty old Bosch built in washing machine is nearing the end after 14 years good service ( 2 brush changes )
The dilemma is what to buy now ?
Built in machines seem well over priced so going for freestanding.
I don’t repair Miele but with a 5 yr warranty , they seem a good bet.
Are they over rated , or really worth the money : when you look at all the other tat about what choice is there.
Budget about £600.
Any advice appreciated

You get what you pay for with Miele washing machines. The build quality is as solid as it always was, precision engineered with top quality materials and components throughout, including heavy gauge stainless steel tub. Although pretty decent by modern standards, the build quality of modern Bosch machines has declined steadily of the last 15-20 years, albeit not as dramatically as for their dishwashers.
Other than a weepy door seal changed under warranty at 14 months, our 14.5 year old W320 has required no maintenance, (still on its original brushes), despite pretty intensive use by our family of 5.

If I lived in the North East I’d be tempted to buy an Ebac with a 10 yr guarantee, induction motor AND hot and cold fill. It seems many customers are wanting dual fill these days and often it means a potential time saving and hence energy saving option many seek in a machine.
If this idea takes off in popularity many other manufacturers will no doubt follow suit. #bringbackthehotvalve 😉

May be too late for Bosch as the other half has been to have a look & fancies the Miele.
Well who i am I to argue ?
Just a point , does the Miele have brush motors .?
Thanks.March 14, 2017 at 6:45 pm #446034eastlmark

Thanks. When she traps something in the door and rips a chunk out of the door seal lip, the £100 cost of the Miele seal will changer her mind.

Really?
I do wonder at times how much you really know about what’s going on in the industry Martin.
And no, I can’t offer much more comment.

Really?
£3 SUSPA dampers in them the same as you’ll find in a sub-£200 Beko I can get you for about that money along with a bunch of other cheap bits you can find elsewhere for boatloads less than Miele want for the same thing as a part.
Rumours now of sealed tanks being introduced as well just for fun.
Quality, Immer Besser… hmm
Commercial, yeah maybe… domestic… let’s just say I’m unconvinced after having taken some apart and seen what’s in them. Tub group okay, all the rest… not all that.

How about a Sharp washing machine?
Sub £300 with a 5 year warranty covered in the main by WTA members.
It’s a Vestel in a posh frock but in todays market looks like good value.Steve

LOL, I leave that to you Ken. Confident in the knowledge that if I take a wrong turn you’ll be there to put me back on track. 😀

So went for Bosch WAT28660 with idos function ; before you start I know it will block up in time, but other than that looks a decent build machine, sales guy said it is made Germany after all.
Also comes with £50 off and a £100 fuel voucher via a prepaid card. Happy days 😀
