ParticipantMy mate’s megger’s knackered. He’s borrowed mine and won’t give it back. Any ideas where he could buy his own, and how much they are these days? He just needs a simple 500v insulation tester and continuity test combined.

Thanks guys. What’s all this plus £27 calibration scam though? Are they selling stuff that doesn’t work unless calibrated at extra cost? Why would calibration be optional – what’s the problem with not having it done?

They quote the calibration charge for each product as an extra charge should you ever need to return the unit to them via your local wholesaler. Some companies have their meters calibrated once a year, others don’t bother until it goes wrong, your choice. 😉
A brand new product comes already calibrated and guaranteed for 1 year! 🙂 If you take the ‘Ebay option’ perhaps then you might want to get a secondhand unit calibrated correctly? (Usually under £30 but the unit takes at least 14 days to be done and returned 🙁 )

Cheers Martin. Some people don’t know how to market things properly. Do I get a discount if I buy the MARTINdale one?

Very funny :rolls:
Incidentally most local wholesalers are ROBIN agents and often they will do you a good deal! I spotted a £400 loop tester in WF Electrical for £250 a few weeks back!

Hi Folks!
I managed to get quite a good Digital Megger and Continuity from Screwfix Direct, goes up to 1000volts too, was 99 quid but that was end of last year, might be worth a try? 🙂December 18, 2006 at 11:45 pm #197809squadman

If I were you andy why not try connecting the test leads of this megger to both your mates hands. I am sure that he would be much more ameanable to giving it back !

I think this a legal requirment, only called into question when the smelly hits the fan :rolls: Which reminds me mines overdue 😳
I bought a couple of spare Robin insulation testers of Ebay as backup, less than £30 each, both work and are accurate 8) both are “Robin 3111V”, analogue, although these are old models I would recommend them.
