ParticipantI had a new Bosch KGN34X00G delivered today from Dixons online.
I let it stand for 4 hours then turned it on.I expect some motor noise but the noise coming from the fridge to me seems very excessive.
As I type it has only just stopped. Four hours to reach the correct temperature.
Do any of you know if the motor noise will be any quieter in future ?
If not I will send it back and choose a different brand to Bosch.
Thank you.

Will more than likely require a new freezer fan.
Not a big job.

Thanks for reply. But does BSH = Bosch ? 😳
Is there likely to be a call out charge ? I won’t expect to pay anything as the fridge is still less than 12 hours old.

Bosch Siemens Hausgerate. 😉

Nope, no call out charge if the fan unit is faulty.

Thanks. They are sending someone tomorrow afternoon.
Where do I stand if they say there is no problem at all ?
The fridge / freezer is now only 24 hours old. Surely it isn’t built to have this loud hum constantly ? 😕How much noise should be emmitted from a new fridge / freezer ?
If there is a problem should I have it fixed or send it back and get a new one ?

Hi, I have the same fridge/freezer which is less than a month old and is also very noisy (since new). The fan is making alot of noise.
Was the problem you mentioned confirmed or is it a characteristic of this fridge freezer which is supposed to be only 41db running?

Hi,
We have a Bosch KGN34V00 which I guess will be a similar model and on switching it on new you could hear it all over the house!
I had another Bosch engineer here today for a different problem and he confirmed that BSH are aware there is a problem with the fans. If you phone up to complain about the noise, the engineer will automatically get a new fan ordered on his behalf.

My fan was replaced less than 6 months ago and it was a LOT better on noise.
Except I’ve got home today and the fan is now not working at all and my beer doesn’t taste chilled! This is a big problem.
I’m setting it to defrost now in case this is the problem, but I thought this was a frost free freezer and so shouldn’t be required. It’s set at -18 at the top as it was supplied and #3 in the fridge.
Most of the time it’s only about a 1/4 full as I don’t tend to keep much food in.
Any idea’s or should I get bosch back out again?
Thanks
Greg

Participantahh just read through the frostfree info section. Note to self read info first.
I’m guessing it’s frosted up and this is a symptom of another fault.
I bought bosch because I thought they were reliable, having to call out an engineer twice within six months is not looking promising at all. 🙁

there is now a couple of ‘modifications’ for that machine now
quite often, the drain hole is freezing up in the freezer, and ice builds up, and the fan will stop.. theres a kit now to place a low energy heater in the drain hole, and it will be done free of charge by bosch.. give em a call, they’re workin great when its done
hope this helps

I believe I may have a similar problem with my KGN 34X00, which is only 3 months old.
Over the last week or so its seems to be running almost constantly, and the fridge section is only just keeping at about 5C. I also notice that the airflow from the fridge vents (with light switch pressed in) is pretty feeble (fan is running), even with the fridge temp control on max.
Is this likely to be ice at the rear of the freezer blocking the fridge duct – ie does it need the mod mentioned in the post above?
This was purchased from John Lewis, so hopefully they will be sensible about it. 😀April 14, 2007 at 3:54 pm #192592helo_75

yup, see above post
a 24hr defrost will temporarily cure this problem, but you need to get bosch out a.s.a.p
dont think they’ll change it, its over 28 days old

Thanks – Bosch are coming out on Wednesday, and as we haven’t currently got enough room in our other freezer to store all the food during a defrost it’ll have to wait until then.
The manual mentions that this may happen if the freezer door has been left open for a long time, but I know that this hasn’t happened. Anyway, I’d prefer it to be in its ‘broken’ state when the engineer visits!! 😀April 18, 2007 at 4:40 pm #192594tubafan

Bosch engineer has been today.
The freezer evaporator was well frozen-up at the back, but the drain tube had very little ice in it.He was a little reluctant to discuss the drain tube heater mod that has been mentioned here, but did eventually say that this is only applicable if the drain tube is well frozen, which mine was not.
When I asked if he had seen many problems with this model he would only say words to the effect of ‘well, if its made it to an online forum….’. To be fair, I wouldn’t have expected him to badmouth his company’s products.
Anyway, given the symptoms, he is going to arrange for a replacement unit to be delivered.
Lets hope it turns out to be better than this one, or I might have to start quoting ‘Sale of Goods Act’ etc at a few people!!

😯 its a drain hole.. ie to drain WATER
if theres ice in it, it aint draining
honestly, if the bosch guy cant at least be honest with you, its time to give up
i wouldnt bad mouth bosch in any way, their machines are far superior to a lot of stuff, and any problems that arise are cured or modified in practically no time.. fabulous customer support, with even better technical assistance
im glad you managed to get it sorted anyway
