Re: New Persil ‘Small and Mighty’

Persil have now put Optical Brighteners in their colour detergent so that’s not suitable is it?

    I use Stergene for delicates.

Would it be ok to use German Persil Henkel here in the UK. A friend gave me a box of it and wondered if it would be ok to use?

I know you personally don’t like liquids but other than lack of bleach can you please explain to me why they leave a residue in the drum if they are supposedly 100{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} soluble?

Re: New Persil ‘Small and Mighty’

Optical brighteners are a bleach replacement to get colours to “pop” and appear brighter, hence the name.

They are in both colour and non-colour detergent.

German Persil, no clue about it as I’ve not researched it. From memory though I think it’s still a Unilever business.

Liquids leave residues because they are very easily over and under-dosed, much more so than regular powder and they are used wrongly a lot, wrong laundry and wrong programs so they don’t clean properly. What remains is essentially a bacterial sludge.

I don’t want my clothes washed in muck, so I steer clear of liquids in a bid to ensure that doesn’t happen.

Can honestly say I have never over or under-dosed liquids though. Do optical brighteners fade coloured clothing though? Some people tell me they do and some say they don’t.

If you were in a hard water area how much liquid would you advise for normal soil? On the Persil liquid it says 52ml which is too much as that dose I would get loads of thick foam at the door.

I used to use Simply but they don’t make colour care no more but I did find that suited my water quality and the Bosch seemed fine with that.

No, they do not bleach at all.

Too much then if you have foam.

What they say on the pack is a guide, not set in tablets of stone. Different people, different machines, different water hardness levels, different loads sizes… it is impossible to be 100{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} accurate on the pack for all the people, all the time.

My washer is a Bosch WAE2465GB Classix 6 ‘Vario Perfect’ and I absolutely HATE it. The rinsing is pants even with the Aqua plus. Be glad when it breaks down. I won’t be bothering with a modern automatic anymore. Shall get a reconditioned twin tub. All this eco friendly, water saving nonsense drives me mad. I rather have a machine that uses plenty of water so I don’t itch and save water by having a shower or using a watering can to wash the car. It really is just green washing.

@ KWatt I like to thank you personally for being so helpful and giving honest advice. I know where to come in future.

There is one last thing though do you know if Persil is suitable for Vegetarians/Vegans? I have personally contacted them but they don’t respond. I have found an alternative to Ariel which is Simply Biological tablet format, just need a colour detergent for whites. Any you can think of? Regards

Re: New Persil ‘Small and Mighty’

I really do not know about the suitability for vegans of any detergent. To be perfectly honest, I’ve never been asked so have had no reason to look.

Simply is (or was) ex P&G guys IIRC that set up on their own a number of years back but I think the business has changed hands a number of times. I used to have contact with them but lost that in one of their staff shuffles.

At home it’s Ariel and Ariel Colour that’s used, both powders in an ISE 1406 and both are fine dosed correctly.

You cannot use a detergent for colour on whites or, you can but it won’t end well over time for your laundry. It’ll go grey as there is no bleach in any colour detergent.

If you use whites detergent on coloured items they will bleach out over time.

The main problem being that people don’t see an immediate change, it often takes 10 or more washes before you see the effect or it becomes noticeable.

Re: New Persil ‘Small and Mighty’

I have heard of the ISE 1406, Does it do deep rinse levels? I may well have to look into that and get rid of the Bosch.

The Bosch Classix 6 is not very good model is it? Not sure if its German or not but doesn’t say on the back. I don’t want another Bosch that’s for sure.

In terms of rinsing performance do powders/tablets rinse better than the liquids?

Re: New Persil ‘Small and Mighty’

The 1406 will be about six years old and has been replaced several times now. 😉

There are no machines that will do what you want because we all want to hug trees. Well, not actually true, people are sold the notion that if they buy a new high efficiency washing machine that they will save a fortune on electricity. This is not true, it is marketing spin. The whole tree hugging and saving the pretty polar bears is, IMO, a side effect that makes people feel good or better much of the time as many of the claims hold little water under scrutiny.

But, due to this people will not buy a machine unless it is at least A rated for energy therefore, nobody will make one that performs worse than that in the energy game because it’d be pointless, they wouldn’t sell.

Then the same people bemoan the performance.

You can see what’s happening can’t you?

People want to both have their cake and eat it and, that’s just not possible.

Then we have UK government and the EU as well as the various EU governments all pushing to appear to be “green” by forcing the energy reductions upon many industries. Which js great until users are forced to accept that, if people want to reduce the energy use then they must make compromises and relearn what they think that they know.

All of this forced manufacturers to do what customers and governments wanted, reduce the water and energy used in modern machines, they just complied with the wishes. It’s hard to rip into them when all they did was what was asked of them.

So these days all washing machines take longer to wash, use massively less water and so on.

You can get better wash performance from the top end models certainly but I don’t know that it would address what you are looking for. I suspect not though.

Re: New Persil ‘Small and Mighty’

KWatt tell that to the tree hugging hippies on automaticwasher.org who think you can get excellent rinsing with low level rinses. Never heard of so much guff in my life. Im only 31 but I can remember when machines used to rinse and wash properly but I don’t buy into the green washing anymore. Its all about making money and I for one can see right through that.

No modern machine is what I am looking for so am not going to bother with buying another automatic. Am giving the Bosch to a friend today so that will make room for my new dishwasher. It infuriates me so much that such a simple job is so difficult to achieve.

Re: New Persil ‘Small and Mighty’

Thing is, you can. Or most people can.

But it takes a bit of care with dosing to make sure that there isn’t too much detergent in the machine.

Ask any of the guys on here how often they go to a customer’s house who has a complaint about a machine, only to switch it in with nothing in it and the thing foams up like a bubble making machine. It really is extremely common.

It is also annoying on many levels because, it costs users a fortune in detergent that doesn’t have to be used, damage to clothes, needless service calls and the obvious environmental effects form those.

You can get machines that will do more rinses, I know the ISE ones do it, to help with people that require better rinsing but what you are asking for is a machine that works circa 1985 and I’m afraid that this is no longer possible.

I heard recently that Whirlpool had to stop selling top loaders in the EU because they couldn’t meet moderns standards so, even that option is now removed.

I would love to be a washer engineer but have no idea where to start. Have always been interested in chemicals and appliances ever since a young age. I used to work on the Hotpoint 9506 myself and that is the thing I miss most you can’t do much work yourself on the modern ones although I did take the drainage hose and drain pump off the Bosch myself following an ESpares video which was good.

It is a bit of a tyranny all this eco friendly clap trap. Customers should have the choice if they want high or low water levels. Have had numerous rows with Currys, Comet and Bennetts about modern machines lol No one listens except here or the Washerhelp site.

Nice to actually exchange messages with someone who knows what they are on about and is honest about appliances.

Miele machines can be programmed to do a “high level rinse” and the water level comes up halfway up the door, very similar to the old hotpoint 95 series… ..

Which I began my career servicing!

Have had a few customers who have asked me to restore their 95’s and swear they will never part with it..

Got a 9513 in mint condition if any one wants it.!!

@ Muv I would be very interested in your 9513. How much would you want for it? I am in Colchester, Essex but am prepared to travel. I would need help lifting the machine though if that’s possible.

@ KWatt I forgot to ask you something which hopefully you may know. Regarding liquid detergents don’t they start off as dry solid ingredients and then dissolved with water?
