ParticipantToday I called to see a faulty washing machine. Just had to let everyone know how stupid people are.
Young mother invited me in and took me to where the washer was.
First thing I noticed was that the lid was off it. Before I put down my toolbox down she had her hand down inside the machine. Holly Mollee lass what are you doing and is the plug out I said? no I dont think so, but it will be alright
:eeek:
My next instruction was for her to remove her hand from the machine and then remove herself into another room. As I proceeded to find out where it was plugged in (behind machine) I didn’t notice the 2 year old child come into the room, when I did he was hanging off the front of the machine, fingers 2 inches from the live on/off switch :eeek: I didn’t even know there was a child in the house.
I gave the mother a bit of a bollocking, to what effect?……do you want a cuppa she said?
Lord help me. I consider myself pretty safety conscious, bit over the top sometimes, but this really rocked me imagine if either had been electrocuted. In hindsight I know what should have happened but this happened out of the blue, no warningJust shows how easy Health and Safety goes out of the window.

Had a similar one last week. Smart alec on the phone when I phoned for directions made me wary before I got there.
Got in the kitchen to find a Servis wm with back and top off. He follows me in, wife and young child already in said kitchen. Same as you…er is the plug out. No I know what I’m doing he replies, ignoring me asking him to take the plug out first, he picks up a cheap volt stick and follows the live in saying he thought it was an internal fuse but it all seems ok.
Off he toddled, again ignoring me telling him how f~~~ing dangerous he was!!!
Turns out he had left it in this condition a couple of hours. Some people are just plain stupid!!!!

How many times have you come across a situation where you have the top and the back off just running the machine after fixing it. Enter customer with a dripping wet J cloth suddenly lurches forth saying “…let me just wipe the top of that before you put the lid back on!” 😯

Generaly the older generation, the youger version couldn’t give a toss. I usually offer to wipe the machine down for the “old one’s” while they put the kettle on and get out the “richteas”
it keeps themout of the road, just have to watch they don’t plug in the machine your working on intead of the kettle 😆May 19, 2011 at 9:20 am #350632Gazman1000

Some years ago I was working in a house where the teenage son and his friend thought it would be funny to plug the machine back in while I was out at the van getting a part. The socket was behind the machine so it was not accidental. Lucky for me the pair kept laughing everytime I put my hand in the machine, I then noticed the machine had been pluged in. I had a word or two with the woman whos house it was, she said they were only messing about! I left the machine in bits and walked out.
It is so easy to walk back in without checking, now I look again everytime I leave the room.
