ParticipantHi there,
I am a student at college and I have an important graded project (3D CAD course) where I must design a new vacuum cleaner suitable for domestic use.
I am wondering if some of you would not mind advising what you like to see with a vacuum cleaner and if there are any dislikes that you may have? Do vacuum cleaners have any major flaws in their design that could be improved upon? Any examples you can give would be appreciated.
Are there any special accessories you think could be provided that would enhance user interaction with the product or would improve the products function.
What is your favourite type of vacuum cleaner? Would you like to see them more adaptable to clean out of reach areas?
Would you consider battery operated or mains powered?
Any help would be greatly appreciated, thank you.

the best vacuum cleaners tend to be the ones that are used in offices as well as home
in my opinion that comes down to Sebo for upright cleaners
and Numatic for cylinder cleaners
battery units can I suppose have their place but its all down to how much power you can get in a battery to get enough suction and when you do how long it will last.
for my money I will plug it in as its has more power and it does not die half way throughDave

Dyson has pushed the design, power and efficiency of the vacuum cleaner to the limit with just one exception. Their cordless units need to include detachable power packs. My Dyson V6 is a pain in the proverbial when the battery dies halfway cleaning the car. 😡

Thanks for your replies so far, they have helped with my research so far.
I have inserted a link to a short 2-3 min survey regarding the new design below.
Can you please take a look, this would be greatly beneficial for my project.
Much appreciated.

in my opinion
1 design flaws
every cleaner has design flaws. in the trade we know them as stock faults the ones you get over and over again
3 bad vac
lots of them, normally Chinese built and no spares available vax, bush and any oddball make
4 good vac
sebo and numatic hard wearing lots of spares available easily if needed
5
better fold away can be good but you have to be careful joint and hinges are strong enough not to breaklights are nothing new the old hoover junior had a DF lamp (Dirt Finder) not a lot of use unless you like cleaning in the dark
cleaner emptying would always be good. all bagless units can be tricky to empty without a cloud of dust which is why I stick to bags
method to remove cable obstruction ?? what do you mean
method to remove fluff obstruction yes important, Sebo has a trap door underneath to unblock
greater suction not so much of a problem when using an upright unless you have built on tools
height adjust vital
adaptability yes but not too far. Kirby used to have kits for cleaning all sorts it was mad

You could add that after Brexit we could go back to using a decent motor in all vacs once more.;)
