I’m planning to trade my heap of Fiat Doblo rubbish for a Ford Transit Connect at some stage but not any time soon.

I’ve been scouting around for a replacement for my rusting Ford courier. Have narrowed it down to a Ford connect, Peugeot expert or partner, all around 04/05. Has anyone any idea of reliability, mpg and insurance groups on these. Also what percentage can I claim back on my expenses being self employed and only using the van for business only.

If you are looking at the Peugeot stuff, look at Citroen as it is absolutely identical and always cheaper. Fiat sell exactly the same vans as Citroen Peugeot but the Fiats have an alarming depreciation factor. Avoid!!
Look at http://www.nationwidevehiclecontracts.co.uk/ – this site is invaluable for vehicle comparison. It works for cars and vans. You can check vehicle stats side by side (mpg, tyre sizes, load capacities, dimensions etc.) and the insurance group is shown as well.
If you are contract hiring, (as I do) there are some brilliant deals to be had if you do your homework. 3 years contract, road tax included, free ply lining….and as it’s classed as a ‘hired’ vehicle, it is fully reclaimable off your tax. 😀 You also don’t take the initial hit of depreciation as you would do when buying outright.
I agree with Deltra – Mercedes Vito vans. 3 different lengths and twin side loading doors as standard….. mine is excellent!!
For contract hire deals, look at http://www.contracthireandleasing.com – the most comprehensive set of deals on the net. And believe me, I did the homework. 😉Hope that helps,
Steve.

Thanks Steve. I viewed one of the citroens and thought it was identicle to the peugeot so I might well go for one of those. If I was to buy, it would be a used one but I will investigate leasing. Thanks again for the useful links.

I’ve just changed my van and found that the citroen dealer near me was way off the price from my peugeot dealer.
I was just about to sign for a new expert L1H1 when they had a 5 month ex-rental come in. 1800 miles on the clock. Air con, bluetooth, etc.
Saved me a bomb! They also gave me a much better trade-in on my old one. I found outright purchase was best for me.
